The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning Chapter 391 by Max Charming

The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 391

Kai left after dropping his remark. Zach stared at his departing figure and felt somewhat displeased. Hearing Kai’s words, Jadie felt unease. Zach… why were you talking about Madelyn? What happened to her?”

Zach cleared his throat, feeling the pain in his stomach again. He didn’t want anyone to see him in this miserable state.

Back when Madelyn used to be around, he rarely felt this kind of pain. She would go to great lengths to make him drink less. She was practically glued to him all the time. Whether it was during work or social events, even if he had a drink with a potential client, she would scold that potential client to make sure he drank less. Sometimes, her actions even cost him potential clients, and Hayson punished her for it. And for every meal, be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner, she would personally bring it to him.

Since Madelyn stopped pestering him, he always felt like something was missing. Zach replied, “It’s nothing. Why aren’t you resting at this hour?”

Jadie felt uneasy because Zach was clearly keeping something from her. But when she saw him like this, she didn’t press further. She adjusted his blanket and lowered her head, saying, I had a nightmare and couldn’t sleep, so I came out for a walk.”

Zach gently patted her head to comfort her. “Go back to your room and get some rest. Aren’t you going back to school tomorrow?”

“How about I feed you some pumpkin soup? You never eat when you drink,” Jadie said as she opened a food container and ladled some pumpkin soup into a bowl. Since it was piping hot, she blew on it before offering it to Zach.

Zach looked at the hope in her eyes and couldn’t bring himself to refuse. After finishing the meal, it was almost three o’clock in the morning. Jadie was tidying up. Zach interrupted her, “It’s almost dawn. Kevin will take care of these things. Go back to sleep.”

Jadie, with her head lowered, stood by the bed. “Zach, I don’t want to sleep alone, I’m scared. Can I lie down beside you for a while? Just like when we were kids, you were always there for me no matter what I did. I felt safe.”

Zach was staying in one of the best hospital rooms, and the bed was quite large, big enough for three people. “Jadie, we can’t go back to how things used to be,” Zach explained calmly.

You’re older now, and you should understand the differences between men and women. Even in a boyfriend- girlfriend relationship, without being engaged, it’s not appropriate for a man and a woman to share a bed. You should know these things.” His eyes held an indifferent look.

Jadie, feeling unfairly treated, retorted, “Zach, I don’t understand. I’m just scared and wanted to be with you for a while. Why won’t you even grant me this request? Do you even consider me your girlfriend? Weren’t we in this relationship with the goal of getting married?”

“Last time, back at home, I saw you kiss Madelyn,” she added. “You can do things like that with her, so why not with me?”

“Zach… do you really like me?” she asked with tears in her eyes. “Did you agree to be with me just because you didn’t want to upset me, knowing I have depression?”

“If that’s the case, Zach,” she said, “I’d rather not be with you. I’d rather stay abroad for the rest of my life and never come back.”

Tears welled up in Jadie’s innocent eyes as she spoke. She ran out crying. Jadie was right about one thing. Zach had been overly accommodating to her to avoid causing her any distress.

Zach frowned and quickly dialed Kevin’s number, telling him to look for her. His already agitated emotions were now even more turbulent. Ten minutes later, Zach received a message from Kevin.

[I’ve found Ms. White.]

That night, Kevin had stayed by Jadie’s room.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
