The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 323

Madelyn felt like Forrest had a point. She hadn’t really planned on buying so many street snacks all at once. After thinking it over, she decided to hold off on getting more and focus on enjoying the ones she already had. She realized she might have gone a bit overboard with her shopping.

In the midst of the bustling crowd, Madelyn couldn’t shake the feeling that there were intense gazes fixed on her. But whenever she looked around, there was nothing there. She must have been imagining things.

As the day started to turn into evening, the sky slowly got darker. Madelyn and Forrest left the market, feeling a bit disappointed that they hadn’t been able to explore everything.

Originally, Madelyn was supposed to head home, but she didn’t really want to go back just yet. They found a spot outside a closed café in the park, finishing up the remaining snacks while watching the fireworks overhead.

She turned her head slightly and glanced at Forrest, who was completely absorbed in the fireworks, his eyes reflecting the sparkling lights. Forrest also turned to look at her. Madelyn said, “I think it’s about time for me to head out.”

“I can give you a ride.” She smiled and declined, “It’s alright, I’ll grab a taxi later. You should go home too and not miss dinner with your family.”

He thought, ‘Family dinner… truth is, it doesn’t mean much to me anymore.’ Then he said, “Sure, let’s go.”

They cleaned left the park. up the food wrappers and Out of nowhere, Forrest brought up,  Aren’t you worried that Ethan might find out I hung out with you today?”

Madelyn replied calmly, “Even if he does find out, why should I be scared of him?” Forrest said, “Are you really naive or just pretending? Even I don’t get the privilege to stay at the Arnold residence… Do you realize what that implies? What does he really think of you?”

Madelyn answered sincerely, “So, what am I supposed to assume? You know about his ex-girlfriend, right? The girl he was ready to defend with his life.”

Ethan’s car accident, the one that left him paralyzed from the waist down, was because of that girl. He had been fond of her since high school, and they were together for three years.

Back then, Ethan had a temperament somewhat similar to the one Forrest has now, but Ethan was even more reckless. The only one who could tame that version of Ethan was that girl. George had shared all of this with Madelyn.

When Ethan’s ex-girlfriend left, he fell into a deep despair. She had left due to opposition from the Arnold family. However, things were different at present. Ethan had the capacity to protect the person he cared about.

Ethan and his ex-girlfriend had once shared a profound love. Madelyn believed she couldn’t match up to that girl in Ethan’s heart. She thought that Ethan and his ex-girlfriend had parted ways due to misunderstandings, and maybe, someday, they could find their way back to each other.

“In this regard, I can’t compete with her. Besides… Ethan might not even be clear himself about whether he truly likes me.” She mused to herself. ‘

Perhaps… he just wants someone to fill the emptiness in his heart.’ Madelyn continued, “After Ethan left yesterday, he went overseas to find her.

Forrest inquired, “How do you know all of this?” Madelyn responded, “George told me over the phone after Ethan boarded the plane yesterday.”

Forrest couldn’t be ignorant of everything that had transpired with Ethan. Otherwise, considering Ethan’s personality, he wouldn’t allow Forrest to get so close to Madelyn without a second thought. He understood that Ethan, much like Zach, could be possessive.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
