The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 317

“You’re busy now, so I won’t disturb you,” Madelyn said. Ethan turned his attention to her. You’re not curious about what I’m up to?” he asked.

Madelyn was taken aback for a moment. It did not seem necessary for him to tell her what he was dealing with. Besides, she was not one to pry into other people’s private matters. Madelyn did not answer his question, she just casually said, “You better get busy. Don’t miss your flight.”

“Alright. When I get back, I’ll bring you a gift.” His voice was calm. Madelyn quickly replied, “No need. You’ve already given me so much. I can’t ask for more.” “Madelyn… Do we really have to be this formal with each other?” His voice held a hint of deeper emotion.

Despite everything, Madelyn always seemed to find a way to turn him down. He had hoped that the events of the previous night would bring them closer, but a single phone call had shifted Ethan’s once-positive mood into one of frustration and disappointment.

Madelyn held onto her dress hem. “I’m sorry. I just feel like you’ve already done so much for me… I can’t ask for more.

One simple apology brought relief to Ethan; he realized he had been too harsh. This was the usual pattern; he struggled to control his temper. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he felt weary. “I haven’t been consistent with my medication, so my tone was too forceful. I’m sorry, Madelyn. I didn’t mean it.”

With genuine concern, Madelyn expressed, “No matter how busy you are, you need to take your medication. If it’s not something extremely important, then don’t push yourself. Your well-being comes first.”

What he truly longed for was a straightforward show of concern. The voice on the opposite end of the line went quiet for a moment. Madelyn, too, was anxious about the conversation potentially becoming awkward and was uncertain about how to proceed.

Ethan, looking at the photos on his office desk, said, “I’ll return shortly. In about three days.” “Got it, make sure to take care of yourself,” Madelyn replied. “There’s something else I need to attend to, so I’ll end the call now.”

“Okay.” After hanging up, Madelyn felt way more chill. She glanced back at her locked door. No one was coming in now. Before heading upstairs, she had told everyone to leave her alone unless it was super important.

Madelyn grabbed a book, stepped out onto the balcony, and laid down on a chair, wrapping herself in a light blanket. She soaked up the sun while diving into her book. Just after she got comfortable, someone knocked on the door. Madelyn decided to ignore it. She peeked at the door, then slid the glass door shut to block out the noise. The recent makeover of her place was not just for looks; it made everything soundproof too. As the knocking got quieter and quieter, Madelyn did not bother about it.

Zach was outside the room, knocking for a bit, but no one answered. “Do you think Madelyn might be asleep?” Jadie asked Zach, her disappointment evident. “Maybe we shouldn’t disturb her.”

Zach gave her a serious look. “Think carefully, did you leave the workbook at school?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
