The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1249

“No worries. I can think of other ways to help you. If we get married, I could… I checked out rings when I was at the mall today. I don’t know if you’d like it or not.” Liam took out a black velvet box from his pocket. When he opened it and took out the ladies’ diamond ring, he did not hear Blake’s response; only her steady breathing was heard in the quiet room.

He stood up quietly from the sofa and knelt in front of her. Blake remained undisturbed. Deep affection filled his gaze as he took out the ring, “I know I might be taking advantage of the situation, but I’ve had enough of waiting. Blake, no matter what happens in the future, I don’t want you to divorce me so easily.”

It was Liam’s selfishness. Indeed, the thought of divorce had never crossed his mind since Blake proposed marriage.

Liam lifted Blake from the sofa, walked into the bedroom, and helped her out of her shoes and coat. He then covered her with a blanket, making her roll into the covers, adjusting herself to find a comfortable position in bed.

As dawn broke the next day, Blake stirred in bed. When she groggily opened her eyes and saw a man beside her, her eyes widened in an instant. It was not until she saw that it was Liam that the shock and vigilance in her eyes slowly began to relax. With furrowed brows, she got out of bed, put on her shoes, ran her fingers through her hair, and walked into the living room.

Blake felt thirsty, so she poured herself a glass of water and took several sips. Standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, she rubbed her forehead and felt more awake.

She turned around at the sound of footsteps behind her and saw Liam in gray and white striped pajamas. They seemed well-fitted but were somewhat oversized in reality. This set of pajamas had originally been prepared by Blake for Kevin when she moved in. Little did she know, he had never worn them nor the slippers on Liam’s feet.

Blake shifted her gaze away, forced a faint smile, and greeted him, “Good morning.”

Liam replied, “Morning. Did I bother you last night?”

Blake hesitated for a moment, then shook her head, “No, I’m fine.”

After a short silence, she continued, ” Liam, we can’t let that happen again. It’s not proper.”

They were just friends, but they slept in the same bed. Even as friends, especially of the opposite sex, it was not suitable to share a bed. Blake did not want to betray Kevin or cause unnecessary misunderstandings, even if he knew the arrangements.

Liam’s eyes showed a touch of sadness. He nodded, “Okay. It won’t happen again.”

When Blake lowered her head, she suddenly noticed the ring on her fourth finger. A look of surprise crossed her face, and she asked, “What is this ring?

Liam laughed it off, “I bought this ring yesterday and wanted to see if it would be a good fit for you. I forgot to take it off when you were asleep last night. Sorry.”

Blake did not think much of it. She removed the ring from her fourth finger and explained, “We haven’t made it public yet. It’s too early to have a ring, so let’s not do it yet. I’m afraid it might attract public attention.”

She quickly changed the subject, saying, “It’s still early, and we have one and a half hours before work. Do you want to rest a bit more? I can prepare breakfast for you.”

Liam shook his head, “It’s okay. I’ll eat at the office.”

The vibes between them grew silent all of a sudden. Blake did not want to see Liam’s anxious expression as he held the ring in the palm of his hand, but she knew there were situations when she had to be tough. Love did not tolerate the slightest betrayal. Now, she had to come up with a plan, so she and Liam would not reach the point of getting married.

“Well, I’ll take a shower first and then head to work.” After saying this, Blake grabbed a set of work clothes from the master bedroom and went into the bathroom to shower. The warm water cascaded down from above. She closed her eyes, her mind filled with the words Kai spoke last night.

‘Now, the priority is to facilitate Mr. Jardin’s awakening. To understand his condition, I’ll need his medical reports.’

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
