The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1154

Blake felt disappointed. Kevin said, “After I leave, the position is yours. With Cecilia looking after you, you can do whatever you want in the company. No one will dare tell you what to do.”

Blake met his gaze and asked, “What do you mean? What do you mean by saying the position is mine? Kevin, what are you planning? Are you using me again?”

Kevin stared at her for a long time. Suddenly, he saw an incoming call displayed on the car’s screen. He said, ” Don’t overthink it. I’ll be going abroad for a while. The company’s affairs are none of my business anymore. Get out of the car now.”

Blake saw that the incoming call was from Audrey. Her heart sank. She was irritated and wanted to curse.

She wanted to know what plans he still had that she was not aware of. She thought, ‘But who am I to question him?’

Then, she got out of the car. After the car drove away, Liam walked over to her and asked, “Are you okay?”

Blake shook her head, “I’m fine.”

In the following week, Blake did not see Kevin in the company. Susan took over her position and became Cecilia’s assistant.

Blake would occasionally pass by Kevin’s previous office. When she did, she would subconsciously look inside at the empty seat. She realized he was really not coming back to the company.

She gradually started to get busy dealing with film and television companies regarding the adaptation of authors’ works.

In the conference room, a few editors were having a meeting.

One editor said, “Lately, we can’t reach the author of ‘Murders in the Night’ for some reason. The crew is ready to start shooting. For this kind of murder mystery genre show, we need to finalize some details. Originally, Hana was in charge of this book, but she’s on maternity leave.”

Hana’s full name was Hana Moore.

Liam asked, “When did we lose contact with the author?”

The editor replied, “It’s been almost half a week.”

Blake responded, “Do we have his address? Has Ms. Moore visited his home?”

“Ms. Moore visited him, but it seemed like there was no one at his home at that time.”

Blake looked at the address information shared by an editor in the meeting group chat. After checking the details, her pupils suddenly contracted.

Blake thought, ‘It’s actually this location!’

She closed her laptop, stood up, and said, “I’ll handle this author. I’ll go there later to check it out. I’ll ask the neighbors. Who knows, I might find him.”

After the meeting, Blake packed up. Liam came over to help her put on a scarf, “I’ll go find you in an hour. I have something to attend to right now.”

Blake sensed an intimacy between them and subconsciously intended to avoid it. Liam had recently been very nice to her, almost like a boyfriend should be.

However, now they were mostly friends and colleagues at work.

Blake understood his feelings. But she did not know how to react to his kindness. Enjoying it made her feel an inexplicable sense of guilt.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
