The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1108

“Stay back. Don’t come near me!”

The person’s voice sounded scratchy. They were a bit late in warning her, though.

Struggling to see in the dark, Madelyn flicked on her phone’s flashlight. She gasped upon seeing someone in a hospital outfit with skin covered in burn marks, causing her phone to slip from her hand in shock.

Hearing a crash, Zach rushed into the women’s restroom without a second thought. Before Madelyn could snap out of her daze, Zach had already started pulling her out.

“You okay?” Zach looked her over real quick.

Still freaked out by the burned person, Madelyn nodded. “I’m alright. They looked so hurt… It freaked me out. Let’s head back, okay?” she mumbled, the image sticking in her head like a bad dream.

Even though Madelyn did not buy into ghost stories, she could not shake off the spooky face she saw.

In the restroom, Yvonne, a sobbing mess with foul-smelling stains on her hospital gown, was found by her helper.

Yvonne felt humiliated. She remembered a time when she did not even bother looking at Madelyn, but now, seeing Madelyn getting more attractive, Yvonne could not help but feel angry and jealous. She wished she could destroy Madelyn’s face.

Yvonne thought if Madelyn’s face got scars like hers, Zach would not look at her twice. She figured Madelyn was only around Zach because she was pretty.

‘Madelyn, Zach doesn’t really love you; he just likes how you look.’

Back in her hospital room, Yvonne’s helper assisted her in changing into clean clothes. Shaking a bit, Yvonne grabbed a mirror she usually did not like using. Gazing into the mirror, her eyes were fierce and intense over her changed face.

She thought, ‘Madelyn, we’re not done yet. When I get better, I’m going to make sure to ruin your face. Then Zach won’t like you anymore, and he’ll come back to me. I should be Mrs. Jardin, not you.’

Yvonne gently touched her face and mumbled to herself, “Just you wait, Madelyn. You’ll see.”

Upstairs, Lana, who was eight months pregnant, was relaxing in Kai’s office. Kai had arranged for her to stay there for easy supervision.

Holding a cup of coffee, Lana came up to Kai. He was deep into checking out Yvonne’s medical stuff, but he quickly switched his attention to Lana. Standing up, he gently took the coffee from her. “Hey, you should be resting in bed. Let me deal with the little things, okay?”

Lana sat down in a chair that he had pulled up for her. “Who’s that person you were talking about today? The one who got all burned? Will she be okay?”

Kai answered, “Yes, you’ve heard of her –it’s Yvonne. We’re not sure what’s going to happen next; even with surgery, we might only fix like 60 to 70 percent of how she looked. Her burns are pretty bad.”

Lana pondered briefly. “Oh, Yvonne. She’s lucky to be alive. What about her ex-husband, your friend? Does he worry about her?”

Kai laughed a bit as he adjusted his glasses and twirled a pen. “Well, it’s okay to talk about this with me, but don’t mention it around Zach. He’s… complicated. You know, yesterday-” He stopped talking when Lana suddenly moved to sit on his lap.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
