The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1096

Cecilia confidently stated, “With money, women can be as powerful as men. So, about this transfer request, I want to hear your thoughts. Do you want to continue working with me, or would you prefer to be an assistant at one of our subsidiary companies?”

Blake decisively replied, “I would rather stay and work with you, Ms. Samford. I’m ready to give my all for you, and I aim to earn a million a year and get rich quickly.”

“That’s the spirit. Earning a million a year is achievable. Work hard for me, and I’ll make sure you’re well compensated.” After saying that, Cecilia surprisingly pulled out a Lamborghini key. “This is my new car, but the color doesn’t suit me. It’s yours now.”

Blake eagerly accepted the luxurious car key. When she stepped out of Cecilia’s office, she felt like she was dreaming. She pinched herself in the stairwell and wondered, ‘Am I still drunk or dreaming? A luxury car as a gift? Is Cecilia really that wealthy?’

Blake realized it was not a dream. She pocketed the key and returned to her desk, keeping a low profile to avoid envy and suspicion. Upon Blake’s return, Susan was rummaging through her desk.

“What are you doing with my stuff?” Blake asked.

Susan retorted, “You’re no longer part of the secretarial office. Didn’t you know? Mr. Harrison requested Ms. Samford to transfer you. I’m just helping you pack up so you can leave. Frankly, I’ve always disliked you. You don’t deserve to stay here.”

Blake scoffed and slammed her hand on the desk, startling Susan, and said, ” Sorry to disappoint you! Ms. Samford just told me the transfer request was rejected, so I’m still part of the secretarial office.”

Susan could not believe Blake’s words and said, “Impossible! Mr. Harrison told me he’d already made you leave.”

Blake crossed her arms and mocked Susan, “Surprised? Don’t you know that Ms. Samford has the second highest authority after Mr. Jardin himself? If you don’t believe me, go ask her yourself.”

Kevin, standing at the office door in a black suit, exuded an intimidating presence. He approached Blake’s desk and said, “I’ve received the email that your transfer request has been rejected. Blake, come to my office.”

“Sure, I’m not afraid of you,” Blake muttered as she followed behind Kevin. In the office, Blake looked disdainfully at Kevin and the mountain of paperwork on his desk.

Kevin massaged his temples and asked, “What are you thinking? Being with Liam is far better than staying with Cecilia. If it wasn’t for last night…”

Blake interrupted him, “So, you knew about last night at Eternal Seasons. You want to transfer me to Liam’s side because you’re worried that Cecilia will harm me?”

“It doesn’t matter what I know. I’m transferring you because you’re nothing but trouble,” said Kevin.

“You really know how to anger someone. If you can’t speak nicely, why not just keep your mouth shut?” Blake retorted.

She slammed the Lamborghini key on Kevin’s desk. “See this? Ms. Samford gave it to me. This key is proof that the salary she’s offering is more than enough for me to be her assistant, unlike you, a damn cheapskate.”

Kevin looked up sharply, his gaze intense. “Blake, do you really think that I won’t be able to control you just because you’re with Cecilia?”

Blake held her head high, her gaze defiant. After Blake left Kevin’s office, Susan returned all the items she had packed to their original places.

Blake opened her computer and started playing Minesweeper, not bothering to hide it. She used to play games secretly at work, but now, even if Kevin passed by, she did not flinch.

But the annoying part was Blake’s proximity to Kevin, constantly reminding her of his presence.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
