The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1037

At the tranquil company garden, Blake asked, “Liam, why are you here? How’d you even find me?”

Liam’s sudden arrival was not just a pleasant surprise but more of a shock to her. He lowered his eyes to look at her and admitted, “I searched for your company’s address online, and I texted you. But you didn’t reply.’

Blake glanced at her phone and saw a message and a missed call. She responded, “Oh, I’m sorry! I was napping when you called me. And I forgot that I’ve muted my phone.”

Blake changed topics. “By the way, have you eaten? How about I treat you to a meal?”

Liam replied, “I brought food for you.”

Blake was surprised, “What’s this?”

Liam said, “I made it myself.”

Blake took a deep breath, “You cooked?

Liam maintained his smile as he said, I made it according to your preference. Since you like spicy food, I made some spicy buffalo wings that you like.”

Blake loved food more than anything. She was a little moved upon hearing what he said. She thought, ‘He must be interested in me since he brought me food. I can’t string him along.’

She responded, “Liam, I’m sorry… I have a boyfriend! I quite like him and we work in the same company. He confessed to me yesterday. I can’t accept this!”

Liam’s eyes turned gloomy, “Can we be friends then?”

Blake remained quiet and thought, ‘ Why is he so humble?’

She replied, “Sure, you’re a platinum- rank web novelist, my idol since middle school. How could I not want to be friends with you? I’m just a bit surprised because big shots like you were usually aloof and unapproachable. It’s my pleasure to be able to become friends with you…”

Liam smiled slightly, “Okay.”

Blake was still worried that Liam might be upset. She carefully said, “Let’s go to the nearby Avalonian restaurant. There shouldn’t be many people at this hour.”

Liam responded, “Sure.”

Blake walked slowly, so Liam deliberately slowed his pace. She asked, “Did your headache get better? Have you consulted a doctor about it?”

Liam replied, “Don’t worry, I just need some rest.”

Blake nodded, “That’s good. It’s important to get some rest if you’re not feeling well. Don’t trouble yourself like this again in the future.”

Liam said, “Okay.”

Meanwhile, Susan was following behind Kevin as they headed downstairs from the office to the cafeteria. They coincidentally ran into Blake and Liam.

Susan said, “I knew it. Blake must be dating someone. Mr. Harrison, he must be the reason she resigned. And he’s even here now.”

Last night, Susan worked overtime with Kevin until almost ten o’clock. After a long wait, she finally had the opportunity for Kevin to give her a ride home. But he dropped her off halfway and went to pick up Blake. So, Susan wanted to take revenge on Blake.

Although Susan did not know why Kevin did that, she was sure Kevin and Blake’s relationship was not as simple as it seemed.

Susan decided to pin this matter on Blake. That was why she took the opportunity to talk negatively about Blake just now.

Kevin responded, “Are you very free? Stay back to work overtime tonight then.”

Susan said, “I didn’t mean it that way. I was just curious.”

Blake turned her head and saw Susan chase after Kevin. She was a little jealous. She then recalled Kevin seriously asked her to leave his office just now. She began to wonder if Kevin really considered her as his girlfriend.

She suspected that Kevin might have some ulterior motive for dating her, but she still did not know what his true intentions were.

If Kevin intended to use her for his own gain, she would never forgive him. Blake despised being used and exploited like a fool.

In the Avalonian restaurant, Liam opened the thermal lunchbox and placed it in front of Blake. He ordered a plate of spaghetti for himself. Liam asked, “You seem unhappy today. Should I not have come?”

Blake immediately looked up, “It’s not like that. It has nothing to do with you.”

Liam took a sip of warm water and said, “I didn’t take it to heart. Try it.”

Blake quickly composed herself. She did not want to affect him because of her own problems. She said, “I didn’t expect your cooking skills to be this good.”

Liam replied, “After I recovered from my illness, I’ve been living alone. I’ve always been writing novels alone since I graduated from school. I normally cook for myself.”

Blake asked, “What about your parents? Don’t you live with them?”

Liam answered, “They divorced and each has their own family. It’s inconvenient for me to stay with either of them.”

Blake had not expected that. She looked at Liam with compassion. She understood the loneliness of being abandoned by parents. She had been alone growing up too.

Liam continued, “I got leukemia, and my parents couldn’t afford the medical expenses. This became a burden to them. They argued almost every day and that persisted for six months before they decided to divorce! Later, I met a kind person who donated me the medical fees, giving me a second chance at life.”

Liam looked particularly earnest when he stared at her. However, he did not realize that the more casually he mentioned these things, the more heart -wrenching it was for Blake. She felt very sorry for him.

Blake had never thought a successful writer like him would have such a poignant backstory.

Blake was chewing her food when tears suddenly filled her eyes. “Let’s not talk about it anymore, it’s just too sad! How did you manage to get through all this alone? I am alone too, but at least I have a cousin, an aunt, and an uncle who care for me. They treat me like their own daughter.”

Liam quickly grabbed some tissues and handed them to her. He said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring this up. I’m used to being alone, but I’m doing okay now.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
