The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1012

After Madelyn left the banquet hall with Zach, she withdrew her hand from his arm. They unexpectedly came across someone in the elevator.

“Agustin?” Madelyn expressed surprise.

“Madelyn?” Agustin recognized her and then noticed Zach. “And who is this?”

Zach remained silent, his expression unreadable, waiting for Madelyn’s response. Madelyn did not introduce Zach but instead redirected the conversation. ” Agustin, what are you doing here? Weren’t you in Marisburg?”

“I’ve been dealing with some heart issues, so I came for a checkup. I’m just heading back to my hotel to rest. How about you? Are you feeling better?”

Agustin inquired.

Madelyn nodded, offering a smile. ” Much better, thank you.”

“That’s good to hear,” Agustin replied, then presented a gift card to her.” Happy holidays. Here’s a small gesture from me.”

Madelyn politely declined, “Agustin, I’m not a child anymore. You don’t have to do this.”

“In my eyes, you’ll always be a child. Please accept it, or I’ll be offended,” Agustin insisted with a gentle tone.

“Thank you, Agustin,” Madelyn said, accepting the gift. Zach took it from her as the elevator doors opened. Zach and Agustin shared a brief, silent glance before Zach led Madelyn into the elevator.

Madelyn examined the gift card in the elevator, unaware of Zach’s growing displeasure until he spoke with a cold edge, “Why didn’t you introduce me? Am I someone to be ashamed of?”

Zach adjusted the suit jacket on Madelyn despite his icy tone, showing concern for her comfort. Madelyn looked at the gift card, a simple five-dollar card, and ignored Zach’s annoyance.

Zach took her cold hand in his, trying to warm it, his voice laced with frustration. “Why aren’t you this happy with the gifts I give you?”

“He’s different, Zach. He’s like an elder to me,” Madelyn explained. Agustin was a close friend of Madelyn’s mother and had been a comforting presence during Madelyn’s hospital stays, sharing many stories with her.

When Zach and Madelyn reached the parking lot, he suddenly cornered her against a wall, his gaze intense. He asked, “What should you call me, Madelyn? Hmm?”

Madelyn felt cornered under Zach’s scrutiny, Madelyn tried to deflect, ” You’re being unreasonable!” She pushed against his chest, feeling anxious. “Stop, Zach! We’re in a public place.”

Zach persisted, leaning in closer. “Say it!”

Madelyn’s face flushed, “Let’s just go home, okay?”

“Say it,” Zach insisted.

Madelyn felt pressured as many people were leaving with their cars, including Blake. Cecilia, who had also just left, paused at the sight of the couple entwined in the parking lot. Madelyn reluctantly whispered, “H- Honey?”

Zach then softly kissed her, relenting slightly. “Just this time. I’ll let it go.”

Madelyn attempted to lighten the mood, “You’re always so petty, Zach.”

“Zach? We’ll discuss this at home,” he warned playfully.

Suddenly, Cecilia’s sharp voice interrupted, “Zach!” Her heels clicked rapidly on the pavement as she approached them. Zach and Madelyn turned to see Cecilia walking toward them.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
