Evelyn POV
I’m not sure how long I remained on the floor but at some point I managed to dry my eyes. My children, my children will always keep me going. Breathe in, breathe out.
My mobile phone beeps with a notification from a text message is what finally gets me to reach over to my desk. Still sitting on the office floor I grab my phone and open the message. Its from Donnie.
I think I have found her! My heart starts to race, adrenaline starting to pump through each vein in my body.
Another beep. I’ve located one of her men. He’s talking but I can’t keep him for long, not without holding him hostage. What do you want me to do?
I start typing back immediately, I haven’t got any time to lose. Especially if Donnie thinks this guy won’t hang around.
Send me your location, I’ll leave now. I respond, eager to meet with this person and not put Donnie in any further danger. Donnie responds having pinned his current location for me. That’s not as north as I thought it would be, it’s only a ninety-minute drive. If I leave now, I could be there for mid-day.
“Noah?” I push on Noah’s mind-link, keen to get moving. “Evelyn? I’m just finishing my morning rounds at the hospital.” He responds instantly.
Okay so not the best timing.
“I’ve got news from Donnie, he’s managed to find someone who is willing to give information on Vicky. I’m leaving now. I’ll let you know when I find him…” I lock the computer and walk out of my office into the hallway. I grab a fresh bottle of water from the kitchen fridge for the journey, just in case I hit traffic. I really didn’t want to stop.
“Hang on, what?” He sounded confused from the recent developments.
“I’ve got to go meet Donnie…”
“Just wait, Evelyn. I’m coming back, just wait until I can talk to you in person. Don’t do anything, I’m nearly with you.” His desperation to get to me was clear but I couldn’t wait. We finally had a hot lead and I need to get to Donnie right away.
“I’ll be fine. Look after the kids, I’ll be back later.”
“Evelyn, goddess damn it.” He curses as I cut the link. This was the exact reason I am alpha of this pack, to help protect it. To protect my family and my pack members.
If she is planning on attacking I can’t just sit still and wait, I need to do something. I need to find out what she is up to in order to put measures in place. She took my son from me, I can’t let that slide. I may be angry with him right now but she also left Reuben for dead, and the fire in the bit of my tummy wanted revenge for that as well.
I grab my phone, purse and car keys and head out to the courtyard. I climb into my black Mercedes SUV and start the engine, before hitting on the gas and leaving.
Determination fuelling my desire to get to Donnie as soon as possible.
Reuben POV
I had to leave, I was enraged. Enraged at whoever was trying to stir up shit between Evelyn and I. Enraged at the fake photograph and enraged that she didn’t believe me.
Of course it was fake. Not only was Natascha not my type anymore, but I now only had eyes for Evelyn. Yes she had visited me in Alpha Ivo’s office and tried it on but I kicked her out as soon as I knew what she was up to.
(Flashback)
“Oh apologies Alpha…I didn’t realise you was in here.” She forces her way in, even against my increasing alpha command against her.
“Not now Natascha…” I don’t give her the time of day, I continue to read through my emails.
“I won’t take too much time. I have a proposal for you..”
“A proposal?” I grunt, as she takes a seat opposite me at Ivo’s desk and purposely squeezes her breasts together. Maybe there was a time I would have taken her against the desk but that time was gone, even thinking of another she-wolf made me feel sick to my gut.
“I imagine you are missing Vicky and what she could bring to the role of Luna
“She wasn’t Luna!” I growl, she had my attention now.
“Well whatever she was, I could be that. I could be your Luna. I could satisfy you in a way no other woman can.” She stands up and walks around the desk towards me.
A single finger traces along the desk, her seduction perhaps best kept for someone else.
Her finger stops as she walks around the computer and places her hand on my thigh. Just to be touched by another female in such a way that isn’t Evelyn makes my blood boil.
“I suggest if you want to keep your fingers, you remove them off me.” I growl, having had enough of these pushy females that just wanted the title. I already had a luna but fuck, she was now an alpha.
“Reuben, come on…” She scoffs, not expecting her charms to back fire on me.
“Natascha, I have a mate and if you aren’t out of this office in five seconds I’ll come down on your father’s pack like a wolf possessed!” I roar, fighting my wolf wanting to throw her out by the scruff of her neck.
(End of Flashback)
Nate found me on the phone to our IT department at the training grounds. I had sent the email on to myself and needed them to find out who had sent it. It was an unknown email address but my men were the best and it wouldn’t take them long to find out where this email originated from.
“Alpha?” Nate diverts off the path towards the training ground, as I start swearing down the phone.
“Someone has sent Evelyn a fake picture.” I seethe through gritted teeth as I open up the photo to show my beta.
“Bloody hell Reuben…”
“It’s a fake! I want to know who sent it and why?”
“Did she see it?” Nate frowns.
“Of course the fuck she did. Know she’s refusing to have anything to do with me.”
“I’ll handle it.” He offers.
“No, I said I would prove it was a fake and I will.” I was hurt that she flat out refused to consider for one moment that it was a fake.
I thought I had shown her what she meant to me. How much I wanted to make up for things. Even upstairs earlier, I was desperate to make her mine. But I held off, she needed time I could see that. That’s why I needed the shower, I needed to help myself out just to the image of her. She drove me insane with desire.
“Look, there…the chair leg, its got a wave to it.” Nate points to the leg of the chair I was supposedly sitting on whilst Natascha was straddling me. He was right, you couldn’t see it immediately but with a closer eye it had a curve to it. A classic sign of the image being photoshopped.
Bastards! Someone used mine and Evelyn’s history against her, playing on her trust issues with me.
Just then, we watch in complete puzzlement as the usually calm and collected Noah starts to run along the path ahead, cursing out loud. What’s happened for him to start sprinting towards the alpha house?
Has she really called on him to fight our battles? That’s when I see her car reverse in the short distance and speed off towards the pack gate exit. What the hell? Was she really that angry with me?
“Evelyn…Shit!” Noah shouts after her but in vain.
“Noah?” I shout over to him as Nate and I start to jog towards him. “She’s gone…” He pulls his phone out, trying to call her. She must have blocked him out.
“Gone?” What does he mean gone?
“She received a text from Donnie, he has news on Vicky. I told her to wait.”
Fuck! My inner senses were telling me to chase after her.
“Where did she go?” I demand. “She wouldn’t say, only that she would be back tonight and for me watch the children!”
“I’m going after her.” I shout as I start to run towards my red sports car that is parked in the courtyard.
“I’ll come with you…” Nate’s voice rings out in my head. “No, stay and watch the children with Noah. I need to know they are safe.”
“Alpha…” He protests but I need him here.
“Just do it Nate. Rex is your future Alpha you keep him safe.” I roar through the pack link, sending my command to clarify just how serious I was that I was going after her…alone.
