Evelyn POV
“That’s absurd!” Vicky snarls at Rex. It does sound absurd but my boy was intuitive and I wouldn’t put anything passed her.
“Rex what are you saying?” Noah calmly and quietly asks Rex. Noah knows me well, I’m still standing behind Rex and Elspeth, he has turned subtly placing his arm out reaching for the kitchen island, entrapping me behind his arms. Blocking me.
“Her voice is identical to the one on the phone.” Rex confirms with such clarity that silence falls upon the table. My eyes snap to Reuben who has been watching Rex, Elspeth and myself closely the entire time.
“This is madness. Reuben, she’s got it in for me. She’s clearly manipulated the boy.” She points her finger at me as Reuben watches her denial.
“Rex, it must be a similar voice. You’ve got this wrong.”
“Don’t doubt my son!” I growl at him, my wolf not holding back. She is just as protective as me of our pups, she wants answers too. Of course he would believe her, he can’t do anything but side with her.
I’m shaking with anger, it’s uncontrollable. I am frozen, if I move I’ll attack…him or her, I’m undecided.
“Her, definitely her.” My wolf growls in my mind. First she tried to hurt Rex and Elspeth by pulling me down the stairs and now she’s kidnapped Rex. He might be a monster but she was evil. A she devil.
“Get Elspeth out!” I mind-link Noah the words unable to form in my mouth. My aura was starting to swirl around the room, it was thick and heavy, she may be a she devil but I could bring my own kind of hell.
My aura is stronger than most, strengthened by the alliance. It’s power unyielding for a mother’s need for justice.
All but Reuben and Pierce were starting to gasp under it. Pierce wouldn’t be able to fight it for much longer. I mainly rein it in, I have no need for it. But, like this, my aura is unbeatable, by all but him.
His was still stronger than mine…still! I could feel him matching mine but not exceeding it. Keeping that bit more of him well hidden. He remains seated, a smirk crossing his face.
“Evelyn…” Noah’s voice enters my head trying to calm me down, but I push his voice out and release my command again.
“Get them out!” I order firmly through the pack link with him.
“Evelyn…you need to calm down.” Pierce’s usually playful banter is now replaced with a stern tone and trying to take control. He stands up slowly which angers my wolf, she channels forward and I have to use all my energy to stop her from shifting us.
My anger increases when Noah rises from his chair and completely blocks me from moving any closer to Vicky.
“Just calm down for a moment… attacking her is only going to let her gain more power over you. If she is behind it we’ll find the evidence.”
“I know what you’re doing Noah, take the children out and move.” I growl at him, this time not leaving the growl for just the mind-link. Reuben slowly stands, a growl leaving his own chest.
“Candice, can you take Rex and Elspeth into the garden?”
Candice’s response is a growl in the direction of Vicky. She also knows what she is capable of. Milo places a hand on her arm to calm her down. Noah turns to the kitchen island, seeing Cassandra and Michelle watching my frozen from anger state.
“Cassandra, can you take the children out…please?” He pleads with her and after a pause, she nods hastily sweeping the twins in her arms and rushing out of the room.
“You took my son?” I try to finally take a step forward but am blocked by Noah. Reuben had better not protect her from my wrath.
“No of course not. The boy is dilusional
“She tries to laugh it off, looking to Reuben for support.
“Did you kill my men also, when you took Rex?” I roar. Noah’s body tenses before his hands fist by the side of him. He was no longer blocking me, but standing next to me. They were his men too, his Beta side wanted to flank his Alpha.
“First you pull me down the stairs and now you endanger them again. What is wrong with you?” I launch myself at her taking a swipe of her face. She goes to attack me back but she is pulled back by Reuben. I go to take another swipe at her but Pierce catches my hand mid air and turns me into his arms.
“Calm down Alpha!” He hushes me as I try to squirm out of his strong hold. A growl erupts from both Noah and Reuben from his arms wrapped around my waist.
“You are pure evil. Stay away from my children.” I scream at her.
“No one asked you to come here, the sooner you leave the better for us all.” I push forward and she manages to kick me at my mouth and across the jaw. Reuben pulls her back, away from me. She is now being held too tightly by Reuben, to protectively. 2
That’s right, he wouldn’t want her to break a nail, or ruin that stupidly glamorous pyjama set of hers.
“I only came here to ask if Reuben had stolen my son…and I was right wasn’t I? I knew it…I knew this pack was behind it.” My eyes flash to Reuben who frowns at my words.
Fine, he wasn’t behind it but he has given her too much power and she’s done this herself. Was he therefore not as guilty?
“I didn’t even know you were the alpha. You were dead. Believe me, had I of known I wouldn’t have ordered it!” She screams back at me. It takes me a second to realise what she just said, as it does for everyone.
Reuben’s firm arms unravel from around her body, if I wasn’t so angry I’d feel sick at the sight. He takes a step back from her.
“You did this?” His voice is quiet, unbelieving. “No Reuben, I did it for us. She was stealing our packs, I did it for you…for our legacy.” She shakes her head, trying to plead with him.
She takes a step forward trying to touch his chest when his anger explodes to a new level. He pushes her up against the wall, his hand clutched around her throat. He wasn’t hiding his kingly aura now.
“You dared to touch what is mine?”
“What, no Reuben I am yours. I am your Luna not her, she abandoned you. Please Reuben I love you. I did it for you.” She claws at his hand around her throat, every word an effort to say as she gasps for air.
“For me?” He removes his hand, as if to touch her skin stung him. She falls to the floor, on her knees trying to beg at him.
“For the kingdom your Father wanted you to have.”
“What do you know about my Father Vicky? I’ve never wanted to be like him. If that’s what you thought I would be… maybe it’s best she has all the packs.” He turns his back on her but she pulls at him again.
“No Reuben, you don’t mean that…we can still…”
“Children Vicky…innocent children. How could you?” He roars at her before he becomes silent as he mind-links, I’m assuming Nate. Within moments Nate has rushed in with pack warriors.
“Take her to the cells.” He orders at Nate.
“No Reuben…no please…” She screams as the pack warriors pull her out of the alpha house. She wasn’t going to go willingly.
“Just a holding cell Nate, she’s still the acting Luna.” Reuben grabs Nate’s elbow before he leaves. His eyes flash to me, my anger increasing again. Was he really already going lenient on her? What the hell was up with the two of them. Why couldn’t he see her for what she was. She’s just admitted it herself, in front of a room full of alphas and betas….
Was he going to let her get away with this? A tap on the back of the hand and then back to being his Luna?
I hadn’t taken my eyes off him and neither had he off me. He was the first to break as his eyes dropped to my lips as drops of blood continued to enter my mouth, I hadn’t noticed until now. He frowns, as he takes a step towards me.
“Come Evelyn, I’ll clean your wounds.” Noah gestures as he places his arm around my shoulder and gently pulls me away.
