When Dexter arrived, Heather was in the midst of directing the proceedings within the crowd. Despite her fatigue, her face was filled with excitement.
Claudia was also present, accompanying Heather.
“Ms. Hadey.” Dexter nodded in acknowledgment, his expression unreadable.
Upon seeing him, Claudia gave him a once-over, then nodded thoughtfully. “I’m glad you could come,” she said. “Leanne will be very happy too.”
Dexter followed her gaze, responding nonchalantly, “As it should be.”
When he spoke, it was as if he was merely handling a routine matter, devoid of any emotion.
Claudia stood by his side. “Would you consider me as an elder who has watched you grow up?”
“Of course I do.”
“Let me give you a piece of advice,” Claudia said meaningfully. “There are some people and things that you should let go when the time comes. You’ve come this far. Who knows if a misfortune might turn out to be a blessing? Leanne is not bad at all.”
Dexter pursed his lips without responding. Just then, Heather spotted him, her face lighting up. She darted through the crowd, wearing a vibrant smile. “Dax, you got here so quickly.”
Dexter’s expression remained calm, his large hand gently resting on top of her head. “Of course, I can’t let you handle all this by yourself.”
Heather’s smile broadened with bliss as she led him forward. “Let me walk you through the process. Tomorrow, we will walk down this path together.”
Claudia stood behind them, watching the retreating figures of the two young people with a faint smile. Just then, someone approached and whispered something in her ear, triggering a change in her expression. She glanced at Dexter’s silhouette before leaving. “Let’s talk outside.”
Dexter had rarely shown such patience before. He accompanied Heather through the majority of the process, and the latter was exceptionally pleased.
“Why are you always staring at me with that silly smile?” He took the water handed to him by the attendant, unscrewing the cap for her.
“Because you’re handsome, Dax,” Heather didn’t hide her feelings. “I’ve never felt this happy before. You’re about to become my husband.”
“Are you happy that I’m going to become your husband?”
“Of course.”
“However, there are many negative comments from the outside world. They say that I, being a divorcee, am not worthy of you,” he said calmly.
“I never thought of it that way,” Heather threw herself into Dexter’s arms. “In my heart, you’ve merely taken the wrong path. Since I love you, I can accept anything.”
She tilted her head back. “Moreover, I don’t think your previous marriage was a disgrace. Ms. Warren… is a very good person after all.”
Dexter stared into her eyes, not detecting the slightest hint of insincerity within them.
He fell silent, then after a moment, he curved his lips into a smile. “You are indeed considerate.”
Heather’s smile became even more radiant.
“By the way, will Summer be coming tomorrow?”
When he suddenly asked this, Heather’s smile stiffened abruptly. “She’s still ill, so she probably won’t be coming. Why do you ask?”
“Your brother-in-law, who was also your former boss, there’s news about him.”
Heather tried her best to stay calm and probed, “What’s the news?”
“The police said that he was last seen in Rivodia before he disappeared. He should still be there, not having strayed too far.” Dexter spoke calmly, taking a sip of water. “Since Summer isn’t coming, please relay this message to her on my behalf.”
Heather furrowed her brows, lost in deep thought. Dexter took note of this. “Leanne?”
She quickly regained her composure. “Ah, alright. I’ll relay the message when I get back. However, Dax, how many years would Arnold be sentenced to for such a crime?”
“How many years? Does he still have a chance of coming out?” Dexter found it amusing. “He’ll probably get at least twenty years for being an accessory to a crime.”
Heather’s pupils slightly contracted.
