Pushing Heather away, he said, “I’m fine.”
Laura stepped forward and asked, “Father, are you no longer angry?”
Dexter nodded. “With Arnold’s incident, the Olsen family will surely be affected. I hope you’ll be more cautious in the coming days. Mr. Olsen… is getting old.”
Laura understood. “I’ve pretty much mastered managing the family business now, so there’s no need to worry.”
As they conversed, they failed to notice Heather, who stood to the side, her fingers subconsciously clenched, her expression conflicted.
“What are you thinking about?” Dexter asked. Heather snapped back to reality. “I was just wondering if our wedding will be affected since something happened to Arnold.”
Laura shot a sideway glance.
Dexter replied, “You seem to not care about how your sister is doing at all.”
His comment stunned Heather. “It’s not like that. My mother is with Sum now. Since she’s emotionally unstable, I’m afraid she’ll become even more agitated if she sees me… so…”
She was flustered, but Dexter merely smiled. “I’m just saying. The wedding will proceed as planned. The next few days will be tough on you.”
Heather shook her head joyfully, then asked, “When should we get our marriage license? I noticed that everyone else gets theirs before the wedding.”
Dexter replied indifferently, “I’ll be quite busy recently, so let’s wait until I’m free.”
He didn’t mention a specific day.
Heather’s bright smile stiffened. Dexter left Olsen Residence and got into the car. Larry had been waiting for a long time. Upon seeing the blood-stained gauze in Dexter’s hand, he exclaimed, “Mr. Russell, you’re injured again.”
Dexter dropped his gaze to his bloody hand. “It’s not a big issue.”
“There’s medicine in the car. Let me find it.”
Dexter interrupted, “Put that aside, and let’s talk business.”
Larry had no choice but to stop what he was doing and reported, “Arnold received a call last night. Only then did he find out that you hadn’t gone out to the open sea.”
“Who called him?”
“I couldn’t trace the caller. It was well concealed. However, the number is registered in Wavery.”
Larry expressed his confusion, “It doesn’t make sense, though. Only a handful of people know your whereabouts, and all of them are our people. We’ve checked everyone, and they didn’t leak any information.”
Dexter slowly exhaled, his expression unreadable, as if recalling something.
At that moment, in the Mason Garden.
“Moses! I asked you to take me home, not bring me back here!”
In the living room, Josie was beside herself with frustration. Bodyguards stopped her from leaving. Moses was outside, not daring to raise his head. “Josie, my hands are tied. This is his command.”
It went without saying who he was referring to. Josie’s expression darkened. “This is kidnapping and false imprisonment! I can call the police!”
Moses couldn’t take it any longer. Just then, a car stopped in the courtyard. His eyes sparkled as if he had seen a savior. “Mr. Russell is back! You can talk to him, Josie!”
After he finished speaking, he ran off. Dexter got out of the car and saw Moses slip behind him. “What’s up?”
Moses jerked his head toward the house. “I can’t control the situation anymore.”
Ever since his divorce, Dexter no longer resided in Mason Garden. However, with someone constantly cleaning the place, it remained serene and peaceful.
He stepped into the familiar house and saw Josie standing in the doorway, tense as a drawn bow and silent as a stone.
She watched him enter and asked, “Why did you bring me here instead of spending time building a life together with your fiancée?”
Dexter removed his coat, his expression calm and unruffled. “At least you won’t get kidnapped to a place with a ticking time bomb by staying here.”
Josie chuckled. “So, you’re saying you’re actually looking out for me?”
Dexter didn’t respond. Exasperated, Josie wished she could tear off his calm facade. The touching feeling she felt yesterday had completely vanished.
“If you dare to leave me here, I’ll immediately expose your cheating behavior to the media.”
