He had expressed his willingness to die with her. He desired nothing more than to accompany her in death. The intense warmth of their embrace left Josie in a daze. After a moment, she nodded and followed Scott.
Dexter was having his hand injury treated by a doctor, while Larry was updating him on the situation outside.
“The police have seized Arnold’s properties. When the Olsen family found out, Summer was confined to home, as Mark was trying to suppress news of the matter as much as possible.”
The Olsen family was preparing for a grand event and could not afford any mistakes. As Dexter listened, he furrowed his brow without lifting his gaze.
“Liana knows you’re here and she’s quite worried. She insists on coming to see you,” Larry said cautiously.
“Arnold couldn’t have known so quickly that I hadn’t headed out to sea. Someone must have tipped him off,” Dexter quickly deduced. Larry was surprised. “Only insiders were involved this time. There shouldn’t be any leaks.”
However, Dexter remained silent, making it difficult to discern his thoughts. After a moment, he lifted his gaze and saw the silhouette of a woman at the door. His eyes gradually focused on her.
Josie stood there, looking pitiful with her entire body trembling from the trauma. Seemingly helpless, she hid behind Scott. Dexter’s pupils contracted at the sight. Scott stepped forward. “Are you okay? Is it serious?”
The doctor responded, “There’s no damage to the bones or muscles. All the wounds are superficial.”
Without Scott shielding her, Josie was completely exposed to Dexter’s gaze. She felt a bit uncomfortable as she approached him. “Thank you for today.”
Dexter’s gaze was rather intense. He stared at her for a while before finally asking, “What happened to your neck?”
Josie lowered her head, only to discover a red mark. It was a bit painful to touch, likely a result of her struggle with Arnold in Sky Palace. In addition, she still reeked of alcohol and looked visibly disheveled.
After the doctor finished treating Dexter’s hand, he gestured at Josie, indicating that it was her turn, which made the situation somewhat awkward.
Scott also noticed and took the initiative to defuse the situation. “Mr. Russell, I now know that it was you who helped with my job transfer. Otherwise, it would have taken a long time for me to return to the Criminal Investigation Division.”

Dexter didn’t seem to care much about it as he subconsciously tapped the table with his bandaged fingers. “That’s the least I can do for a good cop like you.”
Scott chuckled. “One of these days, I’ll treat you to a meal. But don’t expect a grand feast, as I can only afford something simple with my salary. I hope you won’t turn me down then.”
Before the day’s incident, Scott always thought Dexter was shrewd in business, constantly disrupting markets, although not always honorably. However, Dexter’s actions that day had changed Scott’s perspective. Dexter didn’t mind. He flashed a grin and said, “Of course.”
By the time everything was over, dawn had broken. The morning sunlight illuminated the ground. Moses, along with a group of people, was waiting outside the police station with a four-leaf clover in his hand.
Josie followed Dexter out, the two of them silent. Yet it was an incredibly pleasing sight to Moses and the others.
“Mr. Russell, Josie,” Moses said with a smile, “Entering the police station is bad luck. We need to use this four-leaf clover to ward off the bad vibes.”
Dexter frowned. “I don’t believe in any of this.”
Moses insisted, “It really works.” As he spoke, he began to pat Dexter’s body all over with the four-leaf clover. His actions were quite comical, and Josie couldn’t help but burst into laughter at his serious expression.
“Josie, you too.” Moses stepped forward, causing Josie’s smile to freeze. Dexter curled his lips into a smirk, casting her a leisurely glance.
At that moment, after finishing a phone call, Larry stepped forward and whispered, “Mr. Olsen has invited you over.”
