“Who told you?” Claudia questioned.
Summer remained silent, just smoking. “Even so, ask yourself, haven’t we treated you like our own daughter? From childhood to adulthood, in terms of clothing, food, housing, and transportation, where have we ever let you lack?” Claudia said to her, feeling heartbroken. “It’s not like we haven’t given you anything, Sum!”
“It’s better to have none at all!” Summer roared. “What you’ve given me is nothing more than convenient benefits, not true affection!”
She asked with a trembling voice, “Who are my parents?”
Claudia didn’t respond but directly grabbed her hand and pulled her up. “I’m taking you to the drug rehabilitation center.”
“I won’t go!” Summer’s pupils dilated. “Do you really want the whole world to know that the daughter of the Olsen family is such a person?”
Claudia’s originally stubborn actions slowed down at that moment. She hesitated. Summer, understanding her state of mind, continued to ask, “Who are my parents?”
Claudia had her back to her, took a deep breath, and said, “They’re dead.”
A long silence ensued. Just as Josie was about to look up, Summer suddenly grabbed a cup and fiercely smashed it against the wall, creating a loud shattering noise.
In the end, the commotion there managed to disturb Arnold. He received a message and hurriedly threw on a robe, his steps in disarray. “Mother-”
Just as Josie was getting up, he brushed past him. From inside came a faint commotion. It was Claudia raising her hand once again, slapping Arnold. “I entrusted my daughter to you, and this is what you teach her!”
Josie didn’t look back. She lowered her head and quickly walked away. Only when she was outside did she remove her mask, taking a deep breath.
She could have never imagined that Summer and Zach were not actually biological children of the Olsen family and that she was the only true descendant of the Olsen family.
Josie was in a daze, stumbling to find a corner to calm herself. The overwhelming amount of information left her unable to regain her composure. No wonder. No wonder I’ve never had any so-called spiritual connection with Summer. It turns out we’re not related by blood.
Her phone vibrated. Arnold sent her a message: Stay where you are and wait for me.
He knew, and he probably guessed it too.
Josie would never let him boss her around. She left the club directly, only to run into Scar again. This time, he brought some people with him, and his attitude was not as pleasant as it had been at the hospital. “Josie, you cannot leave.”
Josie pursed her lips. “Why?”
“Our boss has given us the command, so we cannot disobey.”
Josie hung her head, realizing she couldn’t escape this situation. She turned around. “I can at least use the restroom, right?”
Scarface remained silent, signaling a female attendant to accompany her. Josie entered the restroom. The attendant followed closely behind. She frowned, “Do you plan to watch me use the bathroom?”
The attendant looked troubled, stepping back. “I’ll wait for you outside.”
Josie closed the door and immediately took out the contents from her bag. Then, with a forceful motion, she opened the toilet tank. She placed the documents, which were in a transparent bag, inside the toilet tank, and then promptly closed the lid.
She emerged, and only when the attendant saw that she was unharmed did she feel relieved.
Josie followed her out the door, pondering how to deal with Arnold. However, just at that moment, a person suddenly sprang out from the corner, striking the female attendant’s neck with a hand chop. She fainted on the spot. Josie furrowed her brows as the person turned around. “Ms. Jo.”
“Moses?” she exclaimed in surprise.
“Mr. Russell has received the message.” He spoke succinctly, tossing her a set of clothes. “Put these on. Let’s go.”
Josie pressed her lips together. She had no choice but to accept under the circumstances. Once she had changed, Moses also switched into an attendant’s attire. Silently, he led her to leave through the back door while avoiding Scar.
