At three in the morning, all the guests in the country club had been ushered out. In the vast space, Arnold sat in the seat of honor.
A row of attendants and security personnel were kneeling down below, with Rachel at the very front.
She trembled all over, the imprint of a slap still evident on her face. As she lifted her head, Arnold threw another wine bottle at her. The liquid splashed all over the floor, and shards of glass embedded into the back of her hand.
He lost his temper.
Rachel was trembling, and she bowed down. “I-I d-didn’t know Dexter was also present. I haven’t seen Josie for over two years, I just wanted to teach her a lesson… Arnold, you know I hate her, but I never wished for her death…”
Arnold’s face was expressionless, casually tapping his knee.
“Rachel, do you know what your biggest problem is?”
Rachel did not answer.
“Emotions cloud judgment. It was like this two years ago, and it’s the same two years later. Even if you were to beat her to death, what’s hers will still be hers. What can you possibly gain, you fool! You’ve made no progress!”
He threw yet another bottle of wine, and everyone shuddered.
“I did it all for you,” Rachel exclaimed. “When I heard she had returned, she set fire to La Oriele and even managed to snatch your leverage. I couldn’t stand it, so I just wanted to vent your anger for you!”
“Venting my anger. You really are considerate, aren’t you?”
Arnold sneered coldly, his teeth gritted in anger. “Do you realize the extent of the trouble you’ve caused me, Rachel?”
“You can punish me, in any way you see fit. I can bear it all, but please don’t drive me away…” Rachel was truly terrified.
From his elevated position, Arnold slowly approached Rachel. Using the tip of his foot, he lifted her face. Her face, which greatly resembled Josie’s, could never quite capture her unique charm.
“Ah!”
Arnold stomped down, and Rachel’s face was crushed against the ground, the pain was so intense that she wished for death.
“Who told you that Josie has returned?”
“I-It w-was Laura!”
Immediately, Arnold lifted his gaze, revealing an intense sharpness.
Just at that moment, Scar hurried in, his face filled with anxiety. “Robyn,” he said, “Mr. Dalton has sent a message. He wants you to come over.”
Arnold slowly drew in his legs, his expression turning solemn. He then proceeded to walk out.
“You are to shut yourself in and reflect on your mistakes. The country club is to be shut down, and no business is to be conducted for the next six months!”
By the time Josie had finished tending to her wounds, dawn was nearly breaking. She had injuries on her arms and legs and required assistance to walk.
She was actually doing fine, but Dexter’s complexion was consistently gloomy, filled with fatigue and anger.
“I think I just saw Arnold. I hope I didn’t startle him.”
Dexter opened the car door for her. “You two are now in a business relationship, and you’ve been injured. Of course he can’t just sit idly by.”
“What should I do then? Would he stop trusting me? And Paul’s medicine?”
“Josie.” Dexter’s voice was deep and solemn.
Josie was taken aback. “What?”
The man’s gaze was intense. “Think more about yourself. Do you realize you almost got beaten to death?”
Josie came to her senses. “Didn’t I survive? You all arrived just in time. I’m lucky to have you guys.”
“What if we weren’t there?”
Josie couldn’t respond. The possibility of being beaten to death was real. She changed the subject, “But then again, aside from Arnold, I don’t have any enemies in Rivodia. He shouldn’t be the one to harm me. So who could it be, Dexter? Our enemies are hidden while we are exposed, the situation is quite serious.”
She feigned seriousness, all the while subtly observing his expression. Dexter couldn’t help but be amused by her, a fleeting smile gracing his lips. “You should focus on figuring out how to explain this to your daughter when you get home.”
Indeed, this was a problem.
