Upon seeing the situation, Moses interjected, “Justin has arrived.”
“Justin?” Josie immediately looked up and saw Justin leaning on his cane, curiously observing everything from outside.
“Why did you bring Justin here?”
Moses replied, “Mr. Russell instructed it.”
Justin followed behind Moses and entered the spacious room. To his surprise, he saw Josie sitting to one side while Dexter was sitting on the floor, conversing with a child.
When he saw the little girl, he widened his eyes and looked towards Josie.
Ignoring them all, Dexter earnestly answered Grape’s question. “Because I once made a mistake that hurt your mother, we didn’t live together. I owe an apology to your mother and you, Grape. But I promise, from now on, we will always be together, never to part again.”
His ability to openly admit his mistakes in front of the child greatly surprised Josie.
Pondering over these words, Grape posed a crucial question, “What did Daddy do wrong, and has Mommy forgiven you?”
Dexter lifted his gaze, locking eyes with Josie. “Not yet, but I will try my best.”
“If Mommy doesn’t forgive you, then I won’t forgive you either.”
Dexter remained calm. “All right. I’m glad that you empathize with Mommy, but you can’t call me Mr. Russell anymore, okay?”
“Mmm… Daddy?”
When Grape uttered the word ‘Daddy’ in her adorable voice, it nearly melted Dexter’s heart. He couldn’t bear the thought of his daughter suffering even the slightest hardship in her lifetime.
Dexter curved his lips into a smile. “I’m here.”
“Can I continue to call you Daddy?”
“Of course.”
A warmth flowed through Josie’s heart, but she turned away instead of admitting it.
Having resolved Grape’s confusion, Dexter finally stood up. His previously gentle voice changed when he greeted Justin, “You’re here.”
Justin was extremely wary. “What’s going on? Why are you here?”
“Over the past two years, Moses, my subordinate, was the one who had been in contact with you. Weren’t you aware of it?”
Unwilling to accept the revelation, the dazed Justin shook his head.
“So now you know.”
When Justin didn’t respond, Moses explained with a smile, “Rivodia is dangerous, and your identity is indeed controversial. Thus, this place is both the most dangerous and also the safest.”
Justin found it hard to believe that the boss he had been boasting about in front of Josie was none other than Dexter.
After all that happened, Dexter still ended up there.
“Two years ago, was it you who sent someone to contact me?”
“You were determined to walk into the lion’s den, and I knew I couldn’t stop you. All I could do was lend you my support.”
When Josie heard these words, she was somewhat taken aback. It turned out that he had been planning this since two years ago.
“So, you knew about everything I reported over these past two years?”
Moses responded, “In the past two years, any matters about you, big or small, would be personally reviewed and decided upon by Mr. Russell.”
A long silence ensued.
Josie turned around, only to see Justin frozen in place, utterly at a loss for how to react. He swiftly changed the subject, “So, who is this child?”
In reality, Justin had heard everything that was said just now, but he still asked about it.
Over the past few days, she had met many people. Hence, Grape had quickly wisened up. “Hello, mister!”
Only then did Josie chime in, “This man is your uncle, you should call him Uncle Justin.”
“Uncle? Uncle Justin!”
Justin gazed at Josie in disbelief. “I can’t believe what you’ve done.”
Not wanting to prolong the conversation, she suggested, “Pop is about to wake up. You should go check on him.”
Moses proceeded to inform Justin that he could visit Paul while staying there and ensure his safe recovery. After much persuasion, Justin finally acquiesced.
