“Do you not recognize me? I knew it was you the moment I saw you.”
Josie quickly understood. “Mr. Dalton asked you to pretend to be him.”
In other words, Wayne is still in La Oriele today. He didn’t come to meet with Dexter at all!
Josie desperately tried to break free and run outside, but Arnold swiftly caught her, flinging her into a corner. Josie groaned in pain, struggling to get up for quite some time.
“It has been two years since we last met. You are still afraid of me.”
Josie crouched in the corner, trembling. Her eyes were filled with fear and tension, yet she forced herself to appear calm.
“I thought you had disappeared a long time ago. I did not expect you to still be alive, let alone dare to show up in front of me!”
“You are just the same as you were back then.” Arnold clicked his tongue, gently wiping away her makeup. “You are clearly terrified, yet you pretend to be fearless.”
“I am just glad you are alive. I will settle the past scores with you one by one!”
“We have just met, and you are already saying such annoying things. I do not like it.”
Two years had passed. Arnold had transformed into a figure of unwavering ruthlessness and determination, shedding the traces of melancholy and emotional volatility that once defined him.
“Who is the father of the child?”
Josie opened her mouth, biting his hand. “It is not yours anyway. What is the point of asking such a question?”
Arnold couldn’t help but shudder when he heard Josie mention having a child in the private room just now.
Time flew by, and everything had changed.
“Is it Dexter’s or Morgan’s?” Arnold asked in a hushed voice. He was always aware that, in her eyes, these two individuals would forever hold a greater significance than him.
“My child has nothing to do with them!”
Seeing blood on his hand, Arnold forcefully withdrew it and let the blood drop onto Josie’s. “I will know once I see her.”
Josie wanted to slap him, but he swiftly blocked her hand and said, “It seems like you have reconciled with Dexter.”
An additional scar now adorned the corner of those captivating eyes. The flirtatious charm that once sparkled within them had vanished, replaced solely by an intense sharpness.
Josie did not respond. “La Oriele is on fire. Are you not going to save Mr. Dalton?”
Outside, footsteps could be heard, but Arnold turned a deaf ear to them. “I forgot to tell you. Justin was exposed yesterday. All the news today is just a smokescreen. So, no matter how big a fire is set in La Oriele, your plans cannot be accomplished.”
Each word, each sentence he spoke pierced Josie’s heart. She looked at him in disbelief. “You knew all along. It was you who helped Wyatt kidnap my father, yet you denied it.”
Not only did he deny it, but he also led her in the wrong direction. Thinking about everything she had experienced over the past few years, Josie wished she could kill him.
Arnold scoffed, “Wyatt is such a fool, always wanting more and more. I had no choice but to take him down. I heard he hasn’t woken up yet.”
So it really is him.
“Arnold!” Josie’s eyes reddened as she forced herself to stand. “Where is Paul? Where is he?”
Arnold was pinned against the corner as she grabbed his collar.
“Direct your anger at me or Dexter! You can kill me, but spare an old man!”
She sounded as if she was begging towards the end.
When Arnold heard Dexter’s name, his smoldering anger was reignited. He quickly seized Josie’s wrist and said, “Alright. If you’re so loyal to Dexter, I’m curious to know if he reciprocates your feelings.”
