Josie was oblivious to the emotional turmoil around her. She continued with her work, blending in with the crowd.
It seemed as if she had no connection with Dexter anymore.
Dexter closed his sore eyes, and when he opened them again, she was still there.

He clenched his fist, then released it, restraining himself several times before managing to resist stepping forward.

Dexter froze completely, his pupils slightly constricting. Josie squatted down with a smile, taking the child into her arms. “Were you good today?”
“Yes, Mommy!”
The man had already walked up to Josie, smiling as he said, “She’s very well-behaved.”
That was unmistakably Lachlan, whom Dexter had seen not long ago. He was gentle as a lamb.
Josie looked up and smiled at him, while the man gently patted her shoulder, asking, “Were you tired today?”
Josie shook her head. “It’s just everyday work. I wouldn’t say it’s tiring.”
