Shen Qi stayed motionless while allowing Ye Moxuan to bury his face against her neck, and she could feel his chin resting against her shoulder. Initially, she thought that he would start moving, but on the contrary, he stayed still while leaning against her.
Shen Qi was rather confused by his actions because Ye Moxuan seemed to be emitting a sorrowful feeling, and she could sense his emotions acutely because he was hugging her close.
Sorrowful? In that instant, Shen Qi doubted herself and wondered if she sensed wrongly. Why would Ye Moxuan be sad? “Are you alright?” Shen Qi asked out of curiosity. Did he recall something due to my situation?
However, Ye Moxuan did not reply to her, and neither did he move away from her. He continued leaning against her quietly, and when Shen Qi moved slightly, he grabbed onto her wrist while speaking to her in a hoarse voice. “Don’t move. Let me hug you for a while.”
His deep and husky voice was laced with sorrow.
Shen Qi was stunned to silence, and her heart sank immediately. His tone and voice… In that case, it wasn’t my imagination that he is feeling sad?
After that, Shen Qi stopped moving and let Ye Moxuan rest against her in silence. She even raised her hand tenderly and placed it on Ye Moxuan’s back.
Shen Qi felt Ye Moxuan’s body tremble violently the moment her hand made contact with his back, but he returned still and silent once again.
The two of them sat together in silence for a long time with Ye Moxuan leaning against her shoulder, and soon, his breathing became slow and steady.
Shen Qi was baffled by the current situation.
Has he fallen asleep? Shen Qi lowered her head to get a glimpse of him, and she noticed the dark circles around his eyes. I suppose he hasn’t been sleeping well lately.
Hence, Shen Qi relented and remained motionless while letting him lean against her as he slept.
Shen Qi wasn’t sure how much time had passed when she was awoken by a knock on the office door. Xiao Su and Ye Linhan then entered through the door together, and the two of them were rendered speechless at the sight before them. Xiao Su’s eyes bulged in disbelief at the situation before his eyes, and he raised his arm while pointing at Shen Qi.
“Second Young Lady, you and Second Young Master—”
“Shush.” Shen Qi shushed Xiao Su reflexively and pressed a finger to her lips.
Xiao Su had no choice but to keep quiet, and so Shen Qi relaxed significantly. Suddenly, she felt a scorching stare that was gazing in her direction, and when she looked up, she realized that it wasn’t Xiao Su who was staring at her, for Ye Linhan was there as well.
Ye Linhan stared at the both of them and finally settled his gaze on Shen Qi. His usual tender expression turned into slight anger when he saw the scene in front of him, and he scowled deeply.
Xiao Su cleared his throat and spoke quietly. “Since Second Young Master and Second Young Lady are currently busy, we should leave for now.”
Ye Linhan stood rooted to the spot before speaking in a frosty tone. “I have something very important to discuss with Moxuan.”
Xiao Su pondered before replying, “But, Vice President Ye…”
“What is he doing during office hours?” Ye Linhan reminded them with a displeased tone. He did not raise his voice, but that sentence reverberated around the office.
Xiao Su explained in a hurry, “Vice President Ye, this is Young Master Ye’s office, so he can do whatever he pleases.”
“However, he should not forget that this may be his office, but it is also the Ye family’s company!”
His boiling anger was like a sudden burning rage, as if ready to burn down the office. Shen Qi was shocked as well, and she stared in astonishment at Ye Linhan, who was burning in fury. He is usually such a gentle person; why is he suddenly so bad-tempered?
She gulped reflexively, and before she could react, Ye Moxuan moved slightly before his voice resounded from her shoulders.
“Vice President Ye, have you been somehow provoked? Is that why you are here yelling and venting your anger in my office early in the morning?”
Ye Moxuan was probably just awakened, and his deep voice was husky and alluring, which made Shen Qi’s heart skip a beat.
His tall and well-built body finally moved, and Ye Moxuan raised his head gradually. His dark eyes later focused on Ye Linhan threateningly.
Ye Linhan seemed unfazed by Ye Moxuan’s fierce and cold gaze as he stared back at him. The two of them had a similar chilliness in their eyes.
“Grandpa handed Ye Group to you, but I don’t remember him agreeing to your nonsense,” stated Ye Linhan calmly before approaching them and taking a seat in front of the office desk.
Ye Moxuan’s lips curled into a smile. “What do you mean by nonsense? Every decision that I make is for Ye Group’s sake. Since when have I done anything useless?”
“This is office hour, yet what are you doing?”
Ye Moxuan cocked a brow at him. “Could you not see for yourself?”
Ye Moxuan wrapped an arm around Shen Qi’s waist after saying that, and he squeezed her flesh unexpectedly. Shen Qi cried out in surprise because she was not anticipating that.
Ye Linhan tightened his fists when he witnessed that.
“You—”
“Linhan, why are you angry? I am merely hugging my wife, and I was leaning against her for a nap because I was feeling tired after work. Is there a problem with that?”
Ye Linhan pursed his lips while suppressing his anger. “This is preposterous! What if someone enters and sees—”
“Is this preposterous? I merely had a nap while hugging her. Even if I were to have… done something even more intimate with her, what would you think, Linhan?” Ye Moxuan asked Ye Linhan while he inched toward Shen Qi on purpose and traced his lips around her fair face.
This scene was a massive blow to Ye Linhan, and when he turned to Shen Qi, he initially thought that he would find humiliation across her face, but instead, she appeared calm, without any remorse.
“Here are the files. You should go through them,” Ye Linhan spat and turned around to leave.
Xiao Su followed suit and left the office in a hurry after Ye Linhan walked out of the office. Soon, the couple was left in the office alone again. Shen Qi barely reacted, and only she understood how emotionally affected she was.
Ye Moxuan treated me in that way in front of Ye Linhan just to put a show on him in order to infuriate him.
After they’re gone, Ye Moxuan would most probably return to his usual self.
Shen Qi did not comment further once she thought of that, and so she sat still in wait.
However, Ye Moxuan supported her to help her stand up. “Go ahead with your work, and wait for me when you get off. Let’s go home together.”
Shen Qi was stunned for a while before nodding slowly. “Alright.”
After that, she stood up numbly and walked out of the office. She took her seat once she arrived at her desk, but someone came out of nowhere and grabbed her wrist violently before dragging her out.
Shen Qi snapped back to her senses when she realized that it was Ye Linhan who was gripping her hand. “What are you doing? Let go of me!” she screamed, looking rather upset.
Ye Linhan pulled her into the elevator silently, and he pushed the elevator button for his office’s floor. Shen Qi repeated herself calmly when she saw what he did. “Linhan, what can I help you with?”
Ye Linhan wore a cruel expression as he spoke to her angrily. “I wanted to help you by transferring you to a different department, and it’s fine that you disagreed with me. But why must you stay by his side? Aren’t you humiliated at all?”
“Humiliated?”
“He is obviously using you to put on an act for me. Qi, do you think that is fine? If a man is unable to appreciate you as a woman, you will never be happy even if you stay by his side for the rest of your life!”
Shen Qi appeared astounded, but she soon retrieved her hand calmly.
“This is my life, and it is none of your business.”
