That incident was too embarrassing.
Yuchi Yishu walked over to her side; his voice was lowered. “I won’t tell the others, but only if you promise me one thing.”
“What is it?” Tang Yuanyuan lifted her head with suspicion and met with his intense stare.
Yuchi Yishu placed his hand on her head and softly added, “Don’t ignore me.”
Upon hearing this, Tang Yuanyuan’s heart skipped a beat. Her face instantly blushed as their eyes met. A few moments later, she lowered her head and shuddered, “I haven’t been ignoring you.”
“Haven’t you been ignoring me these past few days?”
“Like I said; I was busy with my studies. I did not ignore you on purpose.”
Yuchi Yishu stopped talking and they both fell into silence. A moment later, Tang Yuanyuan softly said, “If you don’t have anything else to talk about, I’ll go back now. I still have some homework to do.”
In response to her words, there was a brief moment of silence. When Tang Yuanyuan glanced at Yuchi Yishu, she noticed him staring at her carefully while he pursed his lips.
“If you don’t say a word, I’ll assume your silence means consent.” After saying this, Tang Yuanyuan carried her school bag and turned around to run away. However, after marching a few steps, she noticed that she could not move forward anymore. Tang Yuanyuan turned her head around, only to find Yuchi Yishu had reached out and grabbed the strap of her schoolbag.
“Yishu?”
Yuchi Yishu gave out a heavy sigh. “I called you out to talk. So how are we to continue talking if you’re always in a hurry to run away?”
Tang Yuanyuan remained silent as she bit her lower lip.
“Where’s the photo I put in my wallet before?”
Suddenly, Yuchi Yishu asked an awkward question.
Tang Yuanyuan hesitantly replied, “W-What photo? I don’t know.” The photo he mentioned was taken by her because she was in it. She took away the photo for two reasons. Firstly, she thought that since Yishu liked someone else, it would be better if she got out of his sight. Not just her physical self, but the photo of her too. Tang Yuanyuan decided that it was better that she disappeared from his life.
Secondly, since she was about to disappear from his life, she might as well have taken that photo with her.
“You don’t know?” Yuchi Yishu tugged at the strap of her school bag and began to pull her in, little by little. All of a sudden, he clasped onto her shoulder and turned her around to face him. “My wallet was in your hands that day. When you returned it, the photo was gone. Yet, here you are saying that you don’t know?”
“I really don’t know. I didn’t even know your wallet had a photo. Did you lose it yourself?”
“Impossible,” Yuchi Yishu insisted. “It’s impossible for me to lose that photo.”
“Anyway, I didn’t take that photo.” Tang Yuanyuan gritted her teeth; she was determined to fight him till the end.
Yuchi Yishu stopped talking and stared at her for a long time. Suddenly, he chortled, “Yuanyuan, why did you take away my photo? Did you want to secretly hide it away so that you could take a few more glances at me?”
“Nonsense!” Tang Yuanyuan’s face flushed red as she protested, “I did not! You’re not the only person in that photo—” Before she finished, Tang Yuanyuan noticed that she had fallen into his trap.
Yuchi Yishu’s eyes twinkled with mischief and his tone of voice was doting. “But you said you didn’t take it?”
For a moment, Tang Yuanyuan felt like she was being completely exposed in front of him. She felt like he had seen through everything. He already knew that she had taken the photo and that he was not here to ask her but to set her up. Yuchi Yishu knew about everything, yet he still wanted to see her make a fool out of herself.
Suddenly, Tang Yuanyuan thought of something. Maybe Yishu had already found out about my feelings for him. At the thought of this, Tang Yuanyuan’s eyes welled up. Originally, Yuchi Yishu had smiling and adoring eyes. However, his smile disappeared when he saw that her eyes had reddened.
“Yishu, you already know everything, don’t you?”
Yuchi Yishu pursed his lips and with a hoarse voice, he questioned, “Know about what?”
“You don’t have to ask me. You already know about it. Besides, it’s true. You’ve always been smart and quick-witted, so how would you not know about it? You’re right. I took the photo. But I don’t feel like returning it back to you at all. Since you already have a girlfriend, I should distance myself from you. Even though I’m not the only person in that photo, the photo has me in it, so I have the right to take it.”
Upon saying this, Tang Yuanyuan cast down her eyes. Her vision became blurry and her voice began to choke up.
“So Yishu, can you pretend that you lost the photo by accident? Pretend that you know nothing? Please don’t ask me for that photo again, okay? Please don’t look for me anymore, okay?”
Whenever she looked at him, she would think of the image of him standing together with Wen Jingrou on that day. Compared to herself, they both looked compatible with each other. This was the first time in Tang Yuanyuan’s life that she felt ugly.
This kind of feeling felt really bad.
Seeing the young lady crying in front of him made him feel as though someone was strangling his throat; this was making Yuchi Yishu gasp for air. He tightened his hands that were clasping onto her shoulder before releasing it again. He was afraid that if he held on too tightly, it would hurt her; but if he released it, she would run away. Yuchi Yishu’s mind and heart were in a mess. He did not know what he was thinking, or what he was feeling anymore. However, he soon dismissed these thoughts and emotions.
In the end, all his emotions were turned into a throaty sentence. “Who said that I have a girlfriend?”
What is he saying? Yuchi Yishu could not control his own mouth. Although he knew it was wrong for him to say this, he could not change what was spoken.
Tang Yuanyuan paused, lifted her head, and looked at him with teary eyes. “You do. The girl that day is your girlfriend.”
“Who said she’s my girlfriend?”
“If she isn’t your girlfriend, then why was she allowed to sit in your passenger seat?”
Yuchi Yishu could not answer her question because he had wanted Wen Jingrou to help him out from the start. However, after seeing how the young lady had left sadly and refused to meet up with him, he realized that it was all a big mistake.
“Since you can’t give me an answer, it means that she’s your girlfriend. You don’t have to lie to me anymore.” Tang Yuanyuan pushed him away with all her strength. “Anyway, I don’t want to see you anymore in the future. Don’t come over and find me again.” Even with some effort, Tang Yuanyuan did not manage to push Yuchi Yishu’s hands away. She then fumed and commanded, “Yishu, let go of me!”
“No, I won’t.” Yuchi Yishu kept silent as he clasped tightly onto the young lady’s shoulders. His hands then went down to pull at her wrist. “If I let go of you, you’ll run away again. It’s not easy for me to see you again.”
In a fit of pique, Tang Yuanyuan said, “You can go and meet your girlfriend!”
“She’s not my girlfriend.”
“She is!”
“No, she’s not.”
“Then tell me, why was she able to sit in your passenger seat?”
Yuchi Yishu pursed his lips and without a choice, he replied, “I can’t answer your question, but she is definitely not my girlfriend. If she’s my girlfriend, do you think I would have had the time to send you back home that day? She went back by herself that day.”
Upon hearing this, Tang Yuanyuan began to believe in him slightly. However, she still could not wrap her head around it.
