“Don’t think too much about it, Yuanyuan. When I came out, your brother was sleeping.”
Sleeping?
“Yishu would rather sleep than come out to meet me?”
Zhong Chufeng felt like punching himself in the face. What am I doing? Why can’t I even say the right things? He was trying to explain things, but he seemed to have made things worse. “It’s not like that, Yuanyuan. Your brother stayed up too late last night to study. When I was on the way out, I found him sleeping. So, I didn’t tell him that I was coming to find you.”
I hope that Yuanyuan will feel better after I say this. Then, he rubbed the back of Tang Yuanyuan’s head. “Alright, why are you overthinking this? Don’t you know how much that brother of yours dotes on you? Why would he not want to come see you?”
Tang Yuanyuan said nothing more. For one, she felt that it was an inappropriate topic to bring up under these circumstances while Fei was still in the emergency room. Also, she was tired and did not want to talk anymore.
They remained that way for a while. Then, the doors to the emergency room flew open and a doctor came out, informing them that Meng Kefei had many injuries all over her body. Both Zhong Chufeng and Tang Yuanyuan were shocked by the revelation as they had no clue about what had happened.
Annoyed, the doctor asked, “Who are you to the patient?”
“It’s like this, doctor; my sister is her roommate. When my sister realized that she wasn’t feeling well, she wanted to send her to the hospital. In the process, she fell unconscious. There are injuries all over her body? What’s going on?”
“Yes, there are a lot of injuries.”
After listening to Zhong Chufeng’s explanation, the doctor did not continue to question them. They probably didn’t know the whole story anyway. “We can only wait until the patient wakes up to ask her about it.”
As the patient was unconscious at the moment, there were too many unknown variables. Then, the emergency room doors closed again. Tang Yuanyuan looked confused. “Chufeng, did the doctor just say that there are a lot of injuries on Fei’s body?”
Zhong Chufeng said nothing. He pursed his lips, then he pulled her over to a chair to sit after a moment. “You live with her. Did you notice anything odd recently?”
Thus, she briefly told him about the recent events that had occurred.
After getting an idea about the situation, his expression became solemn again. “I’m afraid it must have started since that day. She didn’t dare to tell you about it and tried to endure it by herself. Her condition must have worsened over the past few days. That’s why things ended up the way it did.”
When she heard that, her eyes reddened again.
“Your Majesty, your tears finally stopped. Don’t start crying again. If you cry, I’ll have to take off my shirt and use it to wipe your tears for you.”
His latter sentence shocked her tears back to where they came from. How could she dare to shed tears again?
“Did that scare you? Then don’t you dare cry for no reason.”
She didn’t dare to cry again, but she was still sniffling.
“That’s enough. The doctor only came out to ask about the situation; he didn’t say anything else. That must mean that Kefei’s condition is not that severe. Perhaps she will wake up soon.”
Zhong Chufeng had the impulse to pull her into his embrace when he saw how red her eyes had become. However, he did not dare to make a move. Based on what Yuchi Yishu had said, that would be too detestable of him.
Later on, Meng Kefei was transferred from the emergency room to the normal hospital ward. Then, Tang Yuanyuan noticed that her body was covered in injuries.
“How could this happen? I lived with her, yet I didn’t even notice anything for the past few days. Why does Fei have so many injuries?” She was terrified by the sight. No matter how much she thought about it, she wasn’t clear about what had happened.
He stopped her. “She probably didn’t want you to find out about it. If she wanted you to know, you would have noticed these injuries a long while back. This isn’t your fault.”
“I was too careless. I should have brought her to the hospital earlier.” Then, she realized something important. “Still, why didn’t she say anything despite how serious her injuries were?”
“There are many possible reasons as to why she was unwilling to talk about it. Maybe she doesn’t want to worry you, or she doesn’t want this matter to become a bigger issue. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have rested in her dormitory all by herself for so many days without saying a word about it.” Having said that, his expression became serious. “She probably ran into something troublesome.”
“Chufeng, should I report this to the teachers? Or, we could file a police report.” Meng Kefei had fallen unconscious. Thus, Tang Yuanyuan considered this matter to be very serious. It was probably something that could only be solved by reporting it to the police.
“Don’t panic yet. It already happened anyway. Let’s wait for Fei to wake up first. We’ll decide after we know what’s going on.”
“Okay.”
Afterward, Zhong Chufeng kept Tang Yuanyuan company as they waited in the hospital room for Meng Kefei to regain consciousness.
However, Meng Kefei did not wake up any time soon. Seeing that it was already noon, he didn’t care if he went hungry, but he couldn’t bear to let a young lady like Tang Yuanyuan go hungry with him. Thus, he took out his phone and opened up the takeout APP. “What do you want to eat for lunch?”
Although she was hungry, she didn’t feel like she had any appetite to eat. So, she shook her head. “It’s okay, Chufeng. I’m not hungry.”
“Humans can’t function properly on an empty stomach. How can you not be hungry? If you won’t eat because of this incident, then you’re being a naughty little girl.” He pinched her ear. “Be a good girl, okay? Eat a bit. I’ll order something for you.”
“Okay. Thanks, Chufeng.” Then, she seemed to remember something. “By the way, is my brother still not awake, Chufeng?”
“Your brother? He didn’t return my call. I’m guessing that he is still asleep. When he wakes up, he will definitely rush here.”
“Oh.” She felt slightly better when she heard that Yuchi Yishu was catching up on sleep during the day due to loss of sleep last night. It was fine as long as he wasn’t ignoring her because he was too busy.
Afterward, he ordered some of the food that she loved on the takeout APP. Then, he ordered something lighter that would be suitable for Meng Kefei to eat when she woke up—like porridge or something of the like. Then, he simply chose something for himself and paid the bill.
When the food arrived, Meng Kefei was still unconscious. Thus, Tang Yuanyuan faced the unconscious Meng Kefei and said, “Fei, I’m going to eat lunch. I’ll come back to keep you company after I’m done eating.”
Then, Tang Yuanyuan and Zhong Chufeng huddled around the table in the hospital room to eat. Noticing that the table was covered with food that she liked to eat, she became curious. “Chufeng, how do you know that I like to eat all these?”
“I’ve known you for so long; how can I not know what you like? Besides, I’m famous for my good memory.” He took away the plastic bags, one by one, then opened the covers of the containers. He even prepared the chopsticks for her and passed them to her. “Here; hurry up and eat.”
After taking the chopsticks from him, Tang Yuanyuan suddenly piped up, “Chufeng, the way you urge me to eat is just like my father.”
When Zhong Chufeng heard this, his mood immediately fell. Who wants to be your father?!
