What if Xiao Su believed what the older relatives said and thought they were not suitable together?
Jiang Xiaobai looked away and smiled bitterly.
“Dump him then.”
If that were the case, I’d just leave him. I could fall in love with him, but I could also leave him without reluctance, Jiang Xiaobai thought to herself.
Looking at her smile, Fang Tangtang was speechless.
What was on Jiang Xiaobai’s mind was that once Xiao Su hesitated a little, or that he believed what the older relatives said, she would leave him without any hesitation.
Liang Yahe didn’t tell her own son about this news. However, she was in a difficult situation as well. She couldn’t sleep for the entire night and pestered her husband about it.
“Mingzhi, what do you think we should do? I didn’t inform them in advance when I had their fortunes read by a fortune teller. I thought that the outcome would be a good one. However, it turned out that they were destined to part ways. What should I do? I don’t have the courage to tell them about it.”
Liang Yahe had talked incessantly about it the entire night. Initially, Xiao Mingzhi would console her.
“It’s a new era now, so please don’t be superstitious anymore. You wouldn’t be upset if you never went to a fortune teller. They’re getting along well, and we have a good rapport with her parents. Why should we be worried about the unforeseeable future?”
Liang Yahe found him sensible. “I agree with you. Sigh. Why did I go to the fortune teller in the first place? However, I had asked other fortune tellers as well, and they all gave me the same outcome. Do you think this could be true?”
“How could this be true?” Xiao Mingzhi said helplessly, “Nobody can predict the future, and nothing is destined. Moreover, if there is really any hurdle in their relationship, that could be a test for their love.”
“I’m still worried. What should I do? Should I tell Xiao Su?”
“Don’t tell him.” Xiao Mingzhi disagreed, “He didn’t have a girlfriend before. Now that he’s found a girlfriend, it means that he loves that woman. Your son is a mature man who has fallen in love with a woman of his choice, so please don’t scare away the woman with such superstition.”
“You have a point, but I’m still worried,” Liang Yahe sighed. Unable to sleep, she decided to sit up. “You know how much I like Xiaobai. Even if I don’t tell them, Xiaobai’s mom would inform her own daughter. What if Xiaobai decides to dump Xiao Su?”
“Like I said, you wouldn’t have faced such a problem if you never went to the fortune teller. Without the fortune-telling, the two families would be happy discussing marriage now. I think you simply have too much spare time, that’s why you keep finding trouble for yourself.”
“You can’t say that!” Liang Yahe slapped her husband in displeasure and snorted, “You’re so obsessed with work that you don’t even want to help with the preparations of your son’s wedding. He is our son. Now that I need to discuss it with you, you just blame it all on me! Fine, I don’t want to care about it anymore. You’ll handle it!”
With that, Liang Yahe turned over and ignored her husband.
Xiao Mingzhi was sleepy, and it was time to sleep because he had to get to work the next morning. He was upset that Liang Yahe nagged him incessantly and wouldn’t let him sleep. However, since she was his wife, he had no choice but to put up with it.
Seeing that she was angry, he dared not ignore her and sat straight up.
“Fine, I’m wrong. It’s not your problem. Blame me for my obsession with work. I’ll spend more time disciplining our son. Sleep now and stop caring about this matter. I’ll handle it.”
Liang Yahe didn’t go easy on him as she stared at him and questioned, “How will you handle it? Are you going to tell Xiao Su about it?”
“I won’t.” Xiao Mingzhi directly rejected that idea. “As his parents, we should believe in his choice of partner.”
Xiao Su’s parents were different from Jiang Xiaobai’s parents in the way that they didn’t know Xiao Su and Jiang Xiaobai pretended to be partners at first until they eventually fell in love with each other. Hence, they thought that she was the girlfriend Xiao Su chased after.
“I believe in him, and I like Xiaobai as well. I don’t want any daughter-in-law other than Xiaobai.”
Jiang Xiaobai was a beautiful and kind lady. Liang Yahe had always wanted a daughter. However, she had become weak upon giving birth to Xiao Su. Perhaps it was because of fate that she never managed to get impregnated with a second child, therefore she never had a chance to have a daughter in her life.
She was genuinely happy that her son had found a beautiful and clever girlfriend.
“I know you like Xiaobai, but are you sure her parents wouldn’t tell her about it? Look how worried you are after you came back. Xiaobai will be marrying into our family, so you can imagine how worried her parents are right now.”
Liang Yahe found him reasonable upon hearing that.
“Yes, Xiaobai is their only daughter, and judging from her manners, her parents have raised her well. They must be worried. Sigh. What should we do?”
“It’s pointless that you’re so worried now. Let’s just sleep. I said I would handle this matter. Staying up late isn’t good for our health.”
“All you know is sleep! Your future daughter-in-law is leaving our son soon, so how could you sleep in peace?” Liang Yahe was so furious that she tossed the pillow at her husband and lifted the quilt before storming out of the room.
Having been hurled a pillow on his face, Xiao Mingzhi felt helpless. However, he decided to follow his wife to the living room and passed his phone to her.
“If you really don’t know what to do, call Xiao Su now and tell him what happened today.”
Hearing that, Liang Yahe looked up at him in shock and exclaimed in disbelief, “Are you out of your mind?”
“Don’t you know how to handle this matter? Just tell him about it. It’s his girlfriend, so let him settle it himself.”
In that instant, Liang Yahe felt like punching her husband and decided to stop talking to him.
No matter how hard Xiao Mingzhi persuaded, she just wouldn’t listen to him. In the end, he couldn’t sleep as well, and they just stayed in the living room until the next morning.
At the break of dawn, Liang Yahe hurriedly took out her phone and called her future in-law.
She was worried that it might be too early to call as Du Xiaoyu might not be awake yet, and that she would disturb her sleep.
Nonetheless, the call was answered after a short while.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Mrs. Jiang!” Liang Yahe called out politely. Her voice had become a little hoarse because she never slept for a night.
“It’s you.” Meanwhile, Du Xiaoyu’s voice was just as tired and lethargic.
