“That’s fine, but…” Yan insisted on asking the server for permission.
The server merely smiled faintly. “Miss Zhou, it’s completely up to you if you are willing to let her share the swing. The swing has never supported two people at once, but I think it should be fine by the looks of it.”
Yan started panicking when she heard that, and so she stammered, “H-Has it never supported two people at once?”
Yan was not afraid of falling; she was more concerned about destroying the swing. After all, it did not belong to her, and so she did not want to make such decisions.
After weighing her options, Yan got off the swing, and she looked at Su Yaoyao apologetically. “I’m sorry, the swing is not mine, so I can’t decide if you’re allowed to go up. Feel free to decide for yourself if you wish to sit on it.”
Su Yaoyao was rendered speechless by Yan’s reaction.
It was just a small matter, and Su Yaoyao did not even care about it. In fact, she didn’t care whether Yan would give her permission because she was just trying to get the chance to find out more about Yan’s relationship with Han Qing.
What is happening now? I didn’t expect her to let me decide. In that case, she’s placing the decision in my hands. Hence, I’d have to bear full responsibilities to any consequences.
It seems like I’ve underestimated her. She doesn’t seem as simple and naïve as her appearance suggested.
It seems it’ll be difficult to feel her out.
However, Su Yaoyao snapped back to her senses swiftly. She answered with a smile, “It would be inappropriate for me to sit on the swing since you said that. However, why did you leave the banquet? It seemed crowded and cheerful at the banquet.”
Su Yaoyao sat on the stone chair while she spoke, and her long dress dragged along the ground.
Yan had no choice but to sit across her.
Nevertheless, Yan’s dress wasn’t as long, and the hem was at her knees. Her beautiful and slender legs were exposed, and her dress did not drag along the ground.
This appeared to be a stark contrast, and so Su Yaoyao felt rather upset about it.
Besides, Su Yaoyao recognized the dress Yan was wearing. It’s a piece from a famous designer, whose work I like very much. However, the worst thing is… the designer only produces one piece for each design, and there’s never been one which is my size.
That’s right, I put on weight easily. I eat very little, but I continue putting on weight, and I could never seem to find the motivation to exercise… That is why I have no choice but to refrain from eating fattening foods. However, I binge on dessert and deep-fried foods occasionally, and I’d always end up putting on weight rapidly. In the end, the dresses wouldn’t fit well, and then my less-than-ideal figure would be exposed. Furthermore, I have exceptionally thick legs.
Who would have expected the designer’s dress would look so perfect on Yan?
“The banquet is crowded, but I prefer to be alone because I’m more comfortable that way,” Yan explained after taking her seat.
Su Yaoyao snapped back to her senses when she heard that. After that, she commented with a smile, “I see. Well, I’m in a similar situation as you, and I felt that it was boring. That is why I’m here for a breath of fresh air. Who would have thought I’d end up getting lost? Can I keep you company for a while if you don’t mind?”
Yan nodded obediently. “Sure.”
Since Yan took a lot of cakes for herself before coming out, she felt embarrassed to finish them alone. Hence, she had no choice but to offer some to Su Yaoyao.
However, Su Yaoyao’s expression soured slightly when she saw the cakes.
“Oh, no! I’m on a diet now. These things have too many calories.”
“Is that so?” Yan glanced at her food, and she realized that they were all packed with high calories. Yan asked after a pause, “Are you sure you don’t even want to try?”
Su Yaoyao waved her hands.
“Well, I shall help myself in that case. I haven’t had anything to eat today. I need some food now.
With that, Yan started eating her cakes seriously.
Initially, Su Yaoyao thought that Yan had a naturally-thin figure despite what she ate. However, after learning that Yan had not had any food for the day, Su Yaoyao couldn’t help but smirk in her heart.
What do we have here? It turns out she is just a person who is always dieting since she’s afraid of getting fat. In that case, why is she eating cakes right now? Who is she putting on a show for?
Su Yaoyao asked when she thought of that, “Aren’t you afraid that you might put on weight, eating so many cakes?”
Yan shook her head. “I think it’s fine. I quite like cakes.”
I’m just afraid that I might get a visible belly if I eat too much.
Su Yaoyao was quiet at first.
Su Yaoyao smirked at Yan in her heart. Haha, I’ll give you another second to pretend before I rip away your pretentious mask.
“Weren’t you trying to lose weight since you didn’t eat all day?”
Yan did not overthink, and so she nodded. “Mm-hmm, this dress is quite demanding on my figure. I don’t dare eat much; otherwise, my belly would be visible. That was why I starved myself. However, I don’t have to wear the dress after the banquet, and so it’s fine to eat a bit more now.”
Su Yaoyao was at a loss for words.
I didn’t expect her to be so direct. In fact, she didn’t even think there was something amiss with my question. Su Yaoyao asked in confusion, “Are you always trying to lose weight?”
Yan shook her head. “No, I’m not. I’ve been too busy with work lately, and that is why I’ve been losing weight rapidly.”
I maintained my figure well in the past. However, I’ve been losing weight ever since I returned to China. I’m not even sure if I could fit into this dress if it were in the past. Sigh, this is life…
Su Yaoyao stared at Yan’s delicate small face, thin arms and slender waist. She didn’t feel like speaking all of a sudden.
Yan was savoring her food slowly, and so she completely ignored Su Yaoyao. After sitting there for some time, Su Yaoyao lost her patience and asked abruptly, “Well… I think I saw you walking together with President Han. Am I right?”
Yan let out a hacking cough at the mention of President Han. She stopped eating, and she almost choked on her food. She then patted her chest while she coughed loudly for a very long time. Hence, the server served her some drinks hastily. “Miss Zhou, please have something to drink.”
Yan took a few sips to soothe herself before looking at Su Yaoyao, who was sitting across her.
She looks pretty, and she’s wearing a very beautiful and expensive dress. Initially, she claimed that she lost her way looking for the bathroom. However, there’s quite a distance from the courtyard to the banquet. If the server hadn’t brought me here, I wouldn’t end up here no matter how lost I was.
Previously, I assumed she was unfamiliar with the place, and that was why I thought she got lost.
Yan thought something was amiss now that she mentioned the words ‘President Han’.
Come to think of it, something doesn’t seem right indeed.
No matter how far she wandered away from the banquet, she should have ended up somewhere else. Why did she get lost and ended up here?
Besides, even if she were truly lost, she could have returned to the banquet after asking for the way. Why did she stay back to talk to me?
Su Yaoyao felt sheepish since she noticed Yan was staring at her unblinkingly. Why is this little girl’s gaze so sharp? I merely asked a question.
After considering the possibility, Su Yaoyao tried to remedy the situation in a panic. “Please don’t misunderstand. I was just asking casually. I won’t ask if it’s inconvenient for you to talk about it.”
