Always Been Yours Chapter 629

Chapter 629 His Worry and Her Reluctance

When Nicholas saw the sickly woman on his phone, it made him want to rush over to Tessa’s side right that moment.

“I’m going to tell Edward to book the fastest flight over there right now,” he was about to hang up after saying that.

Fortunately, Tessa managed to stop him. “You don’t need to come. It’s just a fever. I’ll be fine after taking some medicine.”

Nicholas frowned severely as he replied, “I don’t feel at ease knowing that you’re sick on top of being alone.”

“But, you’ll be exhausted with so many things to do on top of you flying around. I don’t want to see you being so tired. It worries me as well.”

Tessa then comforted him through the phone. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. Besides, I’m not as fragile as you think I am. There’s also Kylie around to look after me. So, it’s not a big deal.”

Nicholas stood on the balcony as he held his phone tightly in agitation.

Because of the close distance, Janet could hear some of the conversations, even though she was sitting on the bed.

She could only look at the side of Nicholas with a gaping mouth, as she had never seen the man use such concern and gentleness to talk to anyone before.

Yet, she was witnessing it now, only for it to be directed toward another woman.

It turns out Nicholas has this caring side to him…

Janet had to admit that she felt a fit of jealousy like never before toward the woman called Tessa!

She involuntarily gripped the bedsheets while closing her eyes as she hid all her emotions under her gaze.

Then, after a while, Nicholas hung up and reentered the ward, during which she had already regained her composure.

As she looked at the prideful man, she teased, “Wasn’t that your fiancée? What happened to her?”

“She has a fever.”

Nicholas nodded and replied, but the worry in his voice was apparent to her.

Even though Janet tightly gripped her bedsheets upon noticing this, she still acted like she was concerned. “Is she ok? If it’s serious, then you should look after her. I’ll be fine here.”

“She refused,” Nicholas seemed a bit frustrated upon saying this.

Janet secretly breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that little tidbit of information.

She was afraid that Nicholas might take her up on her suggestion and really go to that woman.

Although she had such thoughts, she still kept up her facade and said, “Seems like you don’t understand women that well. You should know that we like to say the opposite of what we really feel. Especially when we’re sick, almost every woman is at their weakest and needs someone to accompany them.”

“If I were in her shoes, I would happily agree to you taking care of me.”

Nicholas also thought that Tessa was a bit too independent and tough, as she had left this fiancé of hers feeling a bit useless in his role at times.

Although Janet could feel the jealousy in her surging, she still hid her true feelings. “Then, are you sure it’ll be fine if you don’t go?”

“It’ll be fine. She’s a tough woman. It’s just that I’m a bit concerned.” Nicholas slightly shook his head.

Janet felt a bit stunned as she observed the man’s expressions.

“I never thought that one day, you would care for a person so much.”

With an inexplicable expression, she looked at Nicholas with a bitterness she could not express inside.

Yet, he did not notice her weird gaze as he nodded. “I never thought I would feel like this either.”

As he didn’t want to continue on this topic with an outsider, he changed the subject. “How are you recovering?”

Janet only smiled bitterly upon seeing the man swiftly changing the subject. “It’s recovering fine, I guess. After all, inflammation is a given since the wound wasn’t a small one.”

“But, the doctor had injected a dose of anti-inflammatory medicine, saying they would observe me for two more days.”

Nicholas nodded before sitting on the sofa, looking like he was texting someone.

Janet noticed his gentle gaze and knew that he must be chatting with Tessa without even needing to clarify her guess.

But, she was wrong.

Nicholas was not chatting with Tessa, as she needed rest after taking her medicine.

He was actually looking through the photos of him and Tessa as he held the phone.

Unfortunately, Janet didn’t want him to ignore her like that, so she tried to initiate another conversation again.

“Nicholas, the team had always felt you leaving was a huge loss.”

As she knew nothing about business, her conversations were mainly about the squad they were in back when Nicholas served in the military.
